Abstract Experimental ecology methods and chlorophyll fluorescence technology were used to study the effects of different concentrations of manganese (10−12– 10−4 mol L−1) on the growth, photosystem II and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity of Amphidinium sp. MACC/D31. The results showed that manganese had a significant effect on the growth rate, fluorescence parameters (maximal photochemical efficiency of PSII (Fv/Fm), photochemical quenching (qP) and non-photochemical quenching (NPQ)) in the exponential stage (days 1–3) and SOD activity of Amphidinium sp.
