EGR 498: Introduction to Electromagnetics, Fall 2011 Homework 3 assigned 9/7 due 9/21 1. Divergence theorem Problem 3.9 from Ulaby. Note: follow same procedure as 3.10. 2. Divergence theorem Problem 3.10 from Ulaby. The answer is in Appendix D, but show the steps. 3. Gauss’s Law Do problem 4.21 from Ulaby. The answer is in Appendix D, but show the steps. 4. Gauss’s Law Do problem 4.22 from Ulaby. 5. Gauss’s Law Do problem 4.23 from Ulaby. The answer is in Appendix D, but show the steps. 6. Gauss’s Law Do problem 4.24 from Ulaby. 7. Gauss’s Law Do problem 4.25 from Ulaby. The answer is in Appendix D, but show the steps. 8. Design Consider the two concentric charge carrying rings shown in Fig. 1. The inner ring has a linear charge density 1 µC/m and a radius a = 0.5 m. The outer ring has a radius b = 1.0 m. Design the linear charge density of the outer ring so that the average electric field between the two rings is minimized. For a discussion of the electric field due to a ring of charge see Example 4-4 in Ulaby.
