English Department Supplemental Reading Suggestions Summer 2012 While the summer is a time for travel, regeneration and recreation, it is vital that Whitfield students maintain good reading habits and take advantage of opportunities to increase fluency and vocabulary. For students who would like to read beyond the minimum requirement at each grade level, the department has selected the following titles for optional reading based on their developmental appropriateness and their correlation with the essential questions for each course. Students are encouraged to use this list as a starting point for their own summer reading selections. Grade 6 Please select books from the list of Newbery Medal Winners, which you may find at
