connect. converge. communicate. Effective communication is essential for today’s first responders, who in emergency situations face life-threatening scenarios. The Scott EPIC state-of-the-art products include the EPIC Voice Amplifier for strong, clear person-to-person communications and the EPIC Wireless Communications System for both remote and local communications. When communication is critical, connect with EPIC.

EPIC Voice Amplifier EPIC Wireless Communications Console

Linking EPIC Components Takes Seconds

EPIC Voice Amplifier/R1

• Turn on both the EPIC Voice Amplifier/(RI) and communications console.

EPIC voice amplifier

• Momentarily touch their one-way directional keyed contacts. A blinking LED signals a successful link. The link remains active until either component is linked with a different component.

Robust person-to-person communications are now possible with the EPIC Voice Amplifier, a small-profile, simple-to-use voice projection device that transmits strong, clear and crisp voice communications to other nearby respirator users. Contained in a sleek, streamlined package, the EPIC Voice Amplifier permits hands-free communications. Like the former Scott voice amplifier that has served respirator users for over 15 years, the EPIC Voice Amplifier provides a dependable, easy-to-use means of voice communications, but offers added features such as auto shutoff and directional speaker. EPIC Voice Amplifier users may use hand-held two-way radios for remote communications by simply holding the microphone speaker of the radio against the free left side voicemitter when transmitting.

Using the EPIC Wireless System • Turn on both the EPIC Voice Amplifier/RI and communications console. • Press the PTT to transmit over your two-way radio (radio dial controls volume).

EPIC value-added product features

Dependable Remote AND Local Communications

Angled, wide-diameter speakers

Brackets for Maximum Performance

The user’s voice is projected in the direction the user is facing because of the 40 mm wide speakers angled to the front of each EPIC Voice Amplifier.

Communications brackets for the EPIC systems are specially designed to ensure the user’s voice is transmitted loudly and clearly. The brackets are secured around AV-3000 and AV-2000 facepiece voicemitters to maximize sound pressure and minimize feedback. EPIC brackets are easy and simple to install because each bracket features a two-piece design that fits around and on top of voicemitter surfaces.

The ability to communicate to remote locations and locally has long been identified as a critical need of first responders. Developed in response to this need voiced by firefighters and other emergency workers, the EPIC Wireless Communications System is the first truly wireless communications solution for first responders wearing respiratory protection equipment. By joining the EPIC Voice Amplifier/Radio Interface (RI) and a communications console with a robust Bluetooth® wireless technology-enabled link, the components create a remote communications system that can interface with a personal-issue radio. A speaker, located near the user’s ear, ensures the reception of clear, understandable incoming remote messages.

Tactical/audible switches Ease of operation is ensured because the user can recognize activation when the on/off button is pressed. Even with gloved hands, the user feels and hears a click when the button is pressed. When activated, green LEDs illuminate.

Low battery warning

To conserve battery life, an automatic shutdown function deactivates power approximately 20 minutes after last use. The EPIC devices may be reactivated by simply pressing their activation switches.

The voice amplifiers and the Bluetooth link are powered by disposable AAA alkaline batteries. Power to operate the lapel microphone function is drawn from the user’s two-way radio battery, providing an added measure of safety. The user can still communicate remotely with the lapel microphone even if the EPIC components have no remaining battery life.

Sure-grip, textured housings

Choice of Attachment Clips

LEDs flash to indicate low battery.

Multi-Functional Communications Console The communications console houses a number of communications functions including a conventional remote lapel microphone and speaker, the Bluetooth link, a press-to-talk (PTT) switch for sending remote outgoing transmissions and a radio-specific connector. Designed to give the user an added measure of safety in emergency situations, the console also contains an emergency alert mechanism that mimics the functionality of the user’s two-way radio.

Seamless Transition to Tactical Roles with Full Gear Transitioning from non-tactical to tactical scenarios is easier than ever because of the wireless link between the EPIC facepiece-mounted voice amplifier/RI and the communications console. This wireless link eliminates cumbersome cabling and connectors when donning and minimizes the possibility of snagging.

Powered by Disposable AAA Batteries

Automatic shutdown

Constructed with a robust high temperature polymer material, EPIC communications devices have textured surfaces and pronounced ribbing for secure handling, even with gloved hands. Large surface thumb latches ensure easy access to facepiece-mounted units.

A heavy-duty alligator/suspender style attachment clip is provided with the communications console for securely fastening the device to a garment or heavy fabric turnout gear. An optional clothespin style clip is available for user installation.

• Just talk to communicate locally through the voice amplifier.

Connecting with Bluetooth Wireless Technology • Eliminates cables and allows the voice amplifier/RI and communications console to communication over a shortrange radio link. • Avoids interference from or to other electronic devices because of its unique hopping characteristics.
