ESLW 40 Online Workbook Instructions: Grammar in Context PRINT! 1. If you purchased a textbook WITH a key card, you can do this. If not, you cannot do this. 2. You might be able to buy a key card online. If you want to, look for ISBN# 978-‐1-‐4240-‐8257-‐5. 3. If you already tried used your key card and registered, let me know. I'll get you a new one. 4. You must have a computer, a browser, and an internet connection to use this online workbook. 5. It is available now, and will remain available until December 31, 2012. *** To begin, you must have the "Content Access Code" which is what you bought with the textbook, and print a copy of these instructions. You must be at a computer. A. Go to http://www.heinle.com NOTE: The website will probably stop you and say there is a problem. It requires you to turn off your "pop up blocker". You can turn it off completely, or just when you use this workbook, or you can turn it off for the website only. If you don't know what to do or how to do it, ask a friend to help you. You might see this on your screen. If you do, just follow the instructions.
B. Start by clicking on "Click here for instructions". Turn off or "disable" the Pop-‐up blocker in your browser.
C. When you have done that, click on the green "Enter MyELT" and you will go to the main screen:
D. Look for the New User box, and click on the green bar "Create an Account". On the next screen, click the "Student" button. You will see a box on the left with "YES".
E. You will need MY COURSE KEY. Put the "E" in the small box and the rest in the large box marked "Course Key". Here it is: E – Y5KXNRCZEYS55. Enter it exactly like that. In the box below, type in YOUR CONTENT ACCESS CODE. When you're done, click the gray "Continue" button on the right. F. You will have to make a username (usually it is your email address), and a password. REMEMBER THIS PASSWORD. When you have finished the registration, you will get an email message from the website (I think). Or, it might ask you to enter with your new username and password. Go to the "Returning User" box and put in that information. *** G. When you are enrolled, it will take you to a new page. Look for the course ESLW 40 Thomas S2012. When you go to that page, you will (I hope) see the following toolbar at the top. If yours is a little bit different, don't worry. This is the teacher view.
Courses: Shows you ESLW 40 Thomas S2012 Assignments: Gives you a list of all the things you have to work on. There is a picture on the next page.
When you choose a chart, you will see information like in the book. These charts have a voice to explain the basic ideas. You can listen and repeat as much as you want.
When you choose a practice, you get a short 20-‐question quiz. It will be graded and the website will tell you what the right answers are. It will also tell you what pages to look at in our textbook to understand your mistakes and improve.
Right now, you have two pages of assignments to use, from Chapters 1 through 4 (everything on the first test). You should have them all completed by the date of our first big exam on February 9th. NOTE: You may take each test up to THREE times. The Online Workbook will record your BEST score of the three tries, and show me that score. There are also a couple of listening/speaking practices and chapter tests. If you have trouble, let me know. I can't help you with computer things, but with the class and the grammar. ENJOY! :D
