EU440 Greece and South East Europe: Government, Economy and Foreign Policy Teachers responsible: Professor Kevin Featherstone , J205, Dr Spyros Economides, D709 and Dr Vesselin Dimitrov, Q50 This course will be taught during Lent Term through weekly lectures and seminars. It intends to give a thorough overview of the political and economic problems facing post-1989 Southeastern Europe in their international context. Particular attention will be given to the difficulties experienced in gradually integrating the countries of the region in the new European system. Relations with the EU and other European organisations will be studied in some detail. The overarching themes determining the transition to market economies and democratic systems in Southeastern European states will be dealt with on a regional basis to differentiate this course from others offered on Central and Eastern Europe. Greece is singled out because of its membership of both the EU and the regional sub-system of Southeastern Europe.
