Dear readers Welcome to the 2013 Summer & Fall edition of ‘excellence.’ A colleague said that ‘pure survival’ is the name of the game at the moment; where, in almost every respect, we face many challenges. This observation inspired me to discuss it here, questioning what it actually means to fight for survival. We know that many actions are carried out because they are justified as being needed for survival. There is cooperation which can also be a great tool for survival. Potentially, we may even see cooperation as a helpful form of competition. Whatever we conclude individually, there is no single right way; anything can be helpful to survival as long we ensure ‘our thing goes on.’ Darwin described this dynamic as ‘survival of the fittest’ and I like to simply call it ‘continuum.’ Now, I wanted to share this with you as it was the same colleague that said that the ‘excellence magazine’ is a great tool in keeping us together. It helps to bring about more collaboration. I liked this feedback, as I believe any

community has something it shares together. As for BBC Chartering within the project shipping world, ‘excellence’ represents one of these things which can unite us. This is reason enough for us to give ‘excellence’ a new fresh look. In any case, ‘excellence’ is here to stay! Inside this issue we present you with some great examples of collaborative action and some interesting stories from the world of project shipping. Whatever you do in this field, I kindly hope we will stay connected and ‘anchored by excellence!’

Dear business partners and friends It’s great to be back with the second ‘excellence’ issue of 2013. Each time I begin this foreword, I try to think of a message that relates to the vision we follow at BBC Chartering. Fortunately, there is always something to share, something that inspires me, something that makes me think. For this issue, I was inspired by a quote from G.W.F. Hegel’s Lectures on the Philosophy of History (1837) which states, ‘We may affirm absolutely that nothing great in the World has been accomplished without passion.’ Passion acts as both a catalyst and as motivation for movement and advancement. It is BBC’s passion that drives us to provide the highest levels of performance. It is our passion that motivates us to find

page 4 | excellence

solutions that meet our partners’ needs with service that exceeds their expectations. It is passion that fuels our vision of working together, with you the client, to create something ‘great’ in the world. Passion is the reason that performers, like the ones in the Caravan Stage Company, are inspired to examine our world through theater, music, poetry and visual art. We find it again in the architecture designs for the new World Trade Center Hub in New York. This is a building that could simply be square and concrete; instead it is a piece of art. It was designed, successfully, to evoke emotions in those who pass by or enter. And, it is definitely passion that encourages 15,000 cyclists, including Team BBC, to pedal from Houston to Austin, Texas, in order to raise

» It is passion that inspires us to evolve and adapt in our constantly changing world «

funds and awareness for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Finally, it is passion that inspires us to evolve and adapt in our constantly changing world. One instance of adaptation can be found in our 700mt heavy-lift series, with the newly completed m/v BBC Xingang. We are confident that our new buildings, paired with our employees’ expertise, will provide you with the support needed to complete your project. It is my hope that the next time you follow your passion, you will remember BBC’s, and together we will produce something great.

We look forward to seeing you at upcoming events, including: Extemin in Peru, Breakbulk Americas in New Orleans, and Gallimarkt hosted here in Leer, Germany. Hope to see you soon, no matter where!

Sincerely,

Svend Andersen Chief Executive Officer

Digging for treasures of the soil Peru drives for growth

page 6 | excellence

For the past ten years, many Latin American countries have experienced significant growth by tapping into their bountiful natural resources. Peru is no exception; exports dominate the country’s income and it is one of the world’s fastest growing economies. Peru is an international leader in fishing, catching nearly 10% of the world‘s fish production. Its manufacturing sector represents 23% of the country’s GDP and is tied heavily to mining, fishing, agriculture, construction and textiles. Other booming sectors include chemicals, the agricultural industry, pharmaceuticals, machinery and services. The leading sector dictating the economy is the mining industry, which represents 60% of Peru’s export earnings.

were made to the geological knowledge of Peru. In the twenty-first century, with the help from government and international investments, the mining industry has begun to boom again. Due to the halt in business during the late sixties and seventies, only about 12% of Peru’s mineral resources have been tapped. It is believed that Peru holds an estimated 16% of the world’s mineral reserves. Peru is the largest producer of copper and, in Latin America, it is the region’s largest producer of gold, silver, zinc, tin and lead. Peru’s geology has been underexploited with only about 1% of Peruvian territory being used for mining. This means that there is great potential for foreign companies to invest and for the local economy to grow and expand.

Peruvian mining opportunities

Infrastructure as a challenge

Peru’s mining industry dates back to the prosperous economy of the indigenous Inca civilization. The Spanish colonization continued to extort the rich land of its metals, particularly silver and gold. Later, as an independent country, Peru experienced one of its biggest mineral industry booms under the Mining Code of 1950. Extensive exploration led to the discovery and development of many ore deposits, especially the porphyry copper deposits of southern Peru. A number of vein, skarn, metasomatic replacement, and hydrothermal sedimentary deposits of precious and base metals were also discovered. The industry slowed down in the late sixties and seventies as a consequence of the nationalization of foreign enterprises and more restrictive mining regulations. However, the exploration and research on the Peruvian land and geography continued to progress and significant contributions

Peru’s future economic growth depends heavily on the growth of its infrastructure. The country is currently facing an infrastructure deficit that hampers economic growth. According to the Association for the Promotion of National Infrastructure, Peru will have a US$88 billion infrastructure gap until 2021, which amounts to almost 33% of its Gross Domestic Product. The export industry is facing additional costs of 25-30% for logistics due to the lack of infrastructure and inadequate investments; this results in low productivity and competitiveness. Peru’s government is determined to reduce these gaps by adopting public private partnership (PPP) infrastructure projects. The country now has favourable political and economic conditions, and its participation in free trade agreements has made Peru an attractive destination for investment. Furthermore, the government is allocating

funds for infrastructure development. In July 2012, it announced plans to award US$10 billion in infrastructure contracts in 2013 for roads, airports and natural-gas pipelines by launching a concession program to cover the infrastructure deficit. The mining sector, which is attracting a large amount of investment, is putting pressure on the country’s existing infrastructure and increases the demand for new capacity. Failure to close the infrastructure gap in a timely fashion could put significant pressure on mining projects, resulting in slower growth. Therefore, investment in new desalination plants and power generating facilities, as well as more reliable transmission and distribution of electricity, is crucial for the sector. Improvement to rural electrification and access to water will result in increased demand for basic utilities. This demand will lead to more infrastructure projects in underdeveloped areas of the country.

Good place for doing business Given its strong mining potential, Peru has been attracting the world’s major mining companies to expand activities in the country. This was summarized in a recent KPMG study on mining in Peru. The Peruvian Mines and Energy Ministry estimates in 2013 the production of copper will soon reach 1.57 million tons, an 18 percent increase over 2012 that stemmed from a 7.8% increase the year before. Foreign direct investment (FDI) is pouring into the country contributing over 13% to the mining sector. The current value of mining investment is close to USD $10 billion. With investment activity in Peru being driven by the private sector, the country is displaying a growing commitment to becoming a good place for doing business, says the study.

BBC Andino Express Line

BBC Chartering bolsters Peruvian activities Being one of the fastest growing economies of South America, Peru is highly involved in foreign trade. BBC Chartering’s first representation in Lima, Peru began in 2009. Now, four years later, the carrier is moving ahead to further invest in Peru and sees it as an important strategic growth market. At the center of BBC’s interest in expansion stands the carrier’s Andino Line that connects South America’s West Coast with the US Gulf, Europe and the Far East.

economy with BBC Chartering’s shipping solutions.

Very recently the BBC Chartering team in Lima grew significantly and moved to a new office in April 2013. The office is headed by Mr. Juan Eduardo Lynch. Before coming to Peru, he was in charge of developing BBC Chartering’s business in Chile, meaning he is very familiar with the mining industry.

JL: Due to the restrictive development policy in Peru in the last century there is a lot of catch-up to do. It is a huge opportunity for the economy and the prosperity of the people.

We took this opportunity to talk with Juan Lynch who is excited to provide Peru’s market-oriented and dynamic

Juan, from your time in Chile, you know the Andes like the pockets of your jacket. What was it that made you move from Chile to Peru now? Juan Lynch: (Laughs) Yes, maybe my life is just bound to the Andes, the shipping business and mining. I have been with BBC Chartering since the establishment of the Andino service ten years ago. We have seen some significant growth in Chile in the past, and now I think it’s time to move on and help the Peruvian market develop. Why is it important for BBC Chartering to develop business in Peru? What drives this dynamic?

Investors are eager to develop mines in Peru as they expect significantly higher ROI compared to their engagements in Chile. With lower energy and labor cost and sufficient resources in place, Peruvian mining developments have

purpose. conviction. quality attitude. | page 9

an estimated operating cost advantage of 20% compared to Chile.

Briefly what do you see as the biggest challenges going forward in this market, in general and for BBC Chartering?

Shipping is important for the mining industry and for exports in Peru – but where is the cargo controlled and where do you talk to clients?

JL: It’s not all blue sky. There is much to do, especially in the field of port infrastructure. For example, due to congestions we sometimes have 8 to 10 waiting days in Callao, Peru. More commitment and additional investments in infrastructure are needed to facilitate the growth of the Peruvian economy.

JL: This is a very good question, and of course this is crucial for our activities. Speaking for the mining business, the equipment supplies are demanded and controlled by the mining companies directly in most instances. This is different if compared to the oil and gas business where large engineering and procurement contractors work to develop new fields and manage the logistics more centrally. We estimate that currently about 60% to 70% of the cargo is controlled by the originating market but there is a trend that more control is being transferred to the demanding local markets. In the mining business this makes sense if, for example, you look at the day rates of a dumpster truck which is around US $ 25,000 - you definitely want to be in control of your shipment then!

Also there is a huge challenge to govern the economic development while reflecting the interest of all stakeholders - including the indigenous population of Peru. We have seen projects come to a halt in the past due to a negative social response. It is certainly not easy and it takes time. However, it is very important as some mining developments require the relocation of whole villages and hence impact the lives of many. From a BBC perspective, I think it is our responsibility to better educate the market with regards to the shipping language and how it influences decision making. We need to build up trusting relationships and explain to our clients

the difference in chartering terms and how that impacts their risk positions for a transport. We did it successfully in Chile and we plan to do the same in Peru. What are the objectives you have for the local office and personally in Peru? JL: I hope we will benefit from the local development and grow further. Of course I can’t promise, but I think 10% growth per year over the next three to five years sounds realistic. I think we can add significant value, not only to clients doing business in Peru, but along the whole West Coast of South America. As a newly developing hub for BBC Chartering we will be able to improve our services and continue to deliver high levels of performance to the industry.

Personally, I am really looking forward to my family finally joining me here by the end of the year. I hope they will be able to adapt and enjoy life in Peru and what it has to offer. For my part, I love the Peruvian food and cuisine – and that’s a major plus!

Integrated logistics for the wind industry

The Seaport of Emden is the third largest German North Sea port. It is situated on the northern banks of the River Ems and consists of two parts: the Outer Port, which is exposed to the tides and the Inland Port, accessible through two sea locks. Emden is a modern and highly productive universal port. Throughout the past 25 years it has evolved into one of Europe‘s most significant RoRo ports. New cars, destined for export, comprise a large portion of the cargoes handled. Emden also plays a vital role in the emerging market of regenerative energies, particularly wind energy. Thus far, components for both on and offshore facilities are being manufactured, assembled and shipped in and out of Emden. The port’s terminals serve as a base for preassembly, transport and maintenance of the facilities and equipment, as well as multiple wind parks within the German Bight.

page 12 | excellence

EPAS Terminal – a gateway for the future The EPAS (Ems Port Agency & Stevedoring) terminal is located at the North Quai of the port and is also a frequent destination for BBC Chartering vessels. EPAS offers services for ocean-going vessels, inland waterway vessels, new buildings, repair vessels, and the local tugboat associations along the Ems River in Emden, Leer, and Papenburg. EPAS offers agency, warehousing, stevedoring and freight forwarding services. Located in the inland port of Emden, EPAS can be accessed through the large lock for vessels with maximum length of 260m and width of 40m. With excellent hinterland connections, the terminal provides direct access to the railway network, inland waterway system and the German ‘Autobahn’.

Enercon – Energy for the world ENERCON began on its path to success when founder and wind pioneer Aloys Wobben started the company in

1984. A small team of engineers developed the first E-15 / 16 wind turbine with a rated power of 55 kW. In the early days, ENERCON systems still featured gearboxes. Later in 1992, the gearless technology found its first application in the ENERCON E-40 / 500 kW turbines. This new drive system with few rotating components helped to minimize friction and resulted in higher energy efficiency, increased performance and reliability of wind turbines.

share of more than 60% in 2013 and estimates this to gradually increase even further in the years to come.

ENERCON gained their reputation as an innovation leader providing customers with state-of-the-art wind converter technology. By improving blade geometry, ENERCON’s goal is to increase energy production, minimizing noise emissions and load impact on the wind energy converter, thus setting new standards in technological design.

Emden is a central hub for ENERCON and the EPAS terminal is the one-stop shop where all overseas exports for ENERCON are handled.

With more than 20,000 wind turbines installed in over 30 countries to date, it’s no wonder that ENERCON is recognized as one of the leading manufacturers globally. As growth continues, the company expects an export

Partnering for efficient export logistics With a business dependant on export markets, ENERCON relies on logistical partners that efficiently manage the company’s handling of cargo for international dispatch.

On a pier length of 450m EPAS can accommodate vessels with a maximum draft of 11.50m. About 120,000m² of quay space belongs to the terminal including a 3,900m² storage hall located directly on the pier. A 100mt Gottwald mobile harbor crane, an 80mt container crane and two 15mt gantry cranes help to handle cargo at EPAS. With a 600m siding track and Ro-Ro facilities, the terminal is

able to cater to almost any logistic need that ENERCON may have. Through EPAS, ENERCON consolidates German export shipments from production facilities in Aurich, Emden, Haren and Magdeburg. Other international production facilities are located in Sweden, Brazil, Turkey, Portugal, Austria, France and Canada. ENERCON’s sales organization consists of 24 sales offices, of which 16 are international. Today, the installed capacity amounts to over 28GW of the 20,000 ENERCON wind converter units globally. Service and maintenance for these units is provided through some 300 ENERCON service stations around the world.

Green energy is transported by BBC As the global energy mix increasingly relies on the installation of larger and more efficient wind power plants, BBC Chartering is a proud provider for the wind industry’s global transportation needs. In thousands of shipments to date, the carrier has proven their ability to deliver the highest levels of performance for the ocean transportation of leading turbine producers. In Germany BBC Chartering vessels are frequent visitors at the EPAS terminal while loading ENERCON wind turbine components for global dispatch. This past April, the ‘BBC Seine’ and the ‘BBC Maine’, called the port of Emden and berthed at the EPAS pier to load 33 sets of E-70 and E-82 ENERCON wind turbines. Eleven wind converters were loaded on the 143m long ‘BBC Seine’ for Trois Rivieres, Canada. The remaining 22 converters were loaded on the ‘BBC Maine’ for transport to Becancour, Canada. The ‘BBC Seine’ was built in 2010 and is a member of the recently completed ‘BBC Congo’ series with 17,000dwt and 2x 250mt and 1x 80mt lifting capacity. The 2007 built ‘BBC Maine’ belongs to the popular 12,800dwt midsegment of the BBC Chartering portfolio and offers 2x 150mt lifting capacity.

Wind energy shows strong progress worldwide Wind energy has managed to acquire a great deal of momentum in recent years. Much of the world is beginning to become more environmentally conscious, hence a rise in the support surrounding renewable energy. However, clean power has prospects beyond the environment and many countries have been turning to solar and wind energy to establish some economic stability amidst turbulent financial times. Wind energy is set to hit a major milestone in the coming months that will show how much progress this form of clean power has made over the years. The European Wind Energy Association claims that global wind energy capacity will

page 14 | excellence

surpass 300 GW (Gig watts) by the end of this year.

Wind energy supported by Germany’s Northwest The Northwest of Germany, in particular ‘Ostfriesland’, has shown a great deal of support for wind energy in recent years. The ongoing financial crisis has caused turmoil throughout the region and put emphasis on the benefits that could be had through the use of renewable

energy. We may conclude that there is a great network of competences available that combine wind power converter technology, production, logistics and other associated services. As proud partners of this local network, BBC Chartering and its affiliate companies constantly work on ‘getting things done’. For more information please visit www.epas-emden.de and www.enercon.de.

On tour for the cure MS 150 bike ride

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system and affects more than 2.5 million people worldwide. MS produces a variety of symptoms including: loss of balance and coordination, blurred vision, blindness, slurred speech, numbness, paralysis and more. Thankfully, today’s research and medical advancements provide hope to those affected. To help ensure that the advances continue, events like the BP MS 150 do their part to raise funds and awareness. The BP MS 150 is a two-day, 180-mile bike ride organized by the National MS Society ‘Lone Star’ Chapter. Since 2003, Team BBC Chartering has participated in the event, which is the largest of its kind in North America. Each year an international team of customers, partners, co-workers, family and friends come together to be a part of the ride and to encourage/be encouraged by those living with MS. For the 10th annual ride thirty Team BBC members raised a total of about $70,000.00 in funds, a team best. BBC Chartering’s team captain for the ride is Per Petersen, President of BBC Chartering USA LLC. We took the opportunity to talk to Per about the MS 150 and what keeps him motivated to earn a spot in Club 300 (the event’s top 300 fundraisers) year after year.

page 18 | excellence

This year Team BBC celebrated ten years of riding in the BP MS 150. In all of those years, what was the biggest challenge you faced? How did you overcome it? Per Petersen: Well, I would say the biggest challenge for me is to keeping my own body in shape. I begin diligently training in January, doing spinning during the week and riding every Sunday; building up my endurance and strength. I have been competing for ten years and it’s not getting any easier, but I am thankful to have a healthy and capable body. Sore muscles are a good reminder to not take the ability to move for granted. There are many charities and fundraisers to support, what made you choose the National MS Society? PP: It was a cause close to home. I know a few people that suffer from the disease and have seen how important it is to invest in a cure. There are also several BBC employees with loved ones who live with the disease. We searched for a charity that was pure and spends their money in a good way for a good purpose. When we heard about the National MS Society we knew they were passionate about their cause. For every dollar collected, eighty cents or more goes directly to research.

» Q: How do you fight a disease that has no known direct cause or cure? A: You raise awareness and support research… while pedaling a bike 180 miles! «

How long do you plan on participating in the ride? PP: The goal I set for myself is to ride until the BBC team reaches one million dollars. Over the last 10 years we have raised a total of $425,000.00, which is very good for a team our size but there is still much to do. You were ranked #17 of the top fundraisers, and the team was ranked 23rd out of 400 teams in highest fundraising average per rider. How do you raise funds for the event? PP: Most people want the opportunity to support the cause and the rider, all we need to do is go out and spread the word. We reach out to our connections in the industry and we contact family and friends. We even have a bake sale in the office to raise some money. Luckily, we have several sponsors that support us and this cause. I am proud I could contribute to the team’s overall performance, but everyone did a great job!

How important are these sponsors and volunteers to the team? PP: They are extremely important! The volunteers are usually people from the office or family of the riders. They make sure that everything is set up and that the only job we have is to pedal our bikes. Our sponsors ensure that we continue being one of the top performing teams. Most importantly, their donations are vital to MS research. Over the course of two days, you travel about 180 miles total on Texas highways. Have you ever been lost on the ride? PP: (Laughs) Personally no, I have not been lost. There are police all along the way and everything is clearly marked. If you stay with the pack, it is not a problem. But some of our team members this year got ahead of the game and ended up adding 15 extra miles to their journey. We might say in this case they definitely went the extra mile for the cure.

purpose. conviction. quality attitude. | page 19

Is there anything you will never forget about the ride and/ or anything else that you would like to add here? PP: One of my greatest and fondest memories of this experience is being cheered on by victims of the disease who stand and watch along the sidelines. Along the streets they have a powerful phrase written saying: ‘Your pain only lasts two days, ours is a lifetime.’ It really puts everything into perspective and reminds everyone why they are riding. We ride for the cure. I would like to encourage interested riders to join us for the next MS 150. I would like to see both new comers and returning riders. I would also like to thank the support team and everyone that has helped in the past and in the future. I was introduced to the BP MS150 bike ride right after I joined the company in June 2012. I had lunch with my colleagues when I told them that my mom lives with Multiple Sclerosis. This is when I learned that BBC supports the MS Society in the USA by joining the MS150 ride with a team made by BBC Employees from around the world with strong fundraising as well. This encouraged me to join the team and ride for my mom. I was not a biking person back then, but the chance of joining the team and doing something for a world free of MS motivated me, so I bought a road bike and started training on the weekends. The MS150 ride was an amazing experience and totally exceeded my expectations. The commitment that all the people involved on the ride have is amazing. I got that feeling way before arriving at Houston, just by chatting with people from different BBC offices. I put forth my best efforts on the fundraising, asking friends and relatives to contribute and so I achieved my fundraising goal. Also, what really caught my attention is how the good people of Texas support the event. Entire families along the road cheering the riders up all the way long is amazing. Everybody seems to be all for it, which really motivated me during the ride. I really enjoyed joining the BBC team this year, learned a lot from it and I wish to continue giving my support to this event and hope someday we can see a world free of Multiple Sclerosis. Uniquely expressive performance from a tall ship theatre page 22 | excellence

It was back in 1970 when Paul Kriby and Adriana Kelder set out to bring original theatre productions into the lives of those who seldom have the chance to experience the performing arts. What began as a twoperson, one-wagon, puppet show travelling in Vancouver Island, Canada, grew into a major theatrical organization with a company of 25 by the early nineties. The actors, musicians, artists and technicians toured in six large wagons, each one pulled by a team of matched bay Clydesdales (cart horses) hoofing through Canada and the United States. During its horse-drawn years, ‘The Caravan Stage Company’ gained popularity in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Washington, Oregon, California, and Florida.

From a single wagon to a tall ship For 27 years, the shows were staged in the eye-catching 80 ft tensile tent, the Cosmodrome, which was ringed with colourful wall murals depicting various scenes. The wagons were placed inside the Cosmodrome and would be transformed into a variety of sets and scenery. Since 1993, Caravan has realized a new dream by providing a most unique venue: the Caravan Stage Tall Ship Theatre. The design of the ship is based on the traditional Thames River Sailing Barge, 30 meters in length, a 7.2 meter beam, and a blend of the best contemporary marine and theatre technology. With its

The ‘Amara Zee’ incorporates the sailing masts and rigging for scenery, light and sound equipment and special effects. The boat contains a complete lighting and sound system, hydraulics, generators, and both sail and diesel power. The shows are staged on the deck, on the masts and rigging, on the water and the land surrounding the vessel. The audiences enjoy the performances from shore, dock or riverbank.

Stage Tall Ship Theatre in this sense presents a floating venue that crosses the realities of the present with the bank of the past, setting sail for the infinite possibilities of the future. This is also conveyed by the Company’s current performance: Hacked….The treasures of the empire!

Caravan Stage Company performances embody the long tradition of traveling theatrical productions with their combination of innovative stylistic staging, imaginative music and dance, and colorful entertaining themes. The Caravan Stage Tall Ship Theatre integrates text, poetry, video, humor, music, movement, masks, props and special effects into a magical theatrical experience that is both compelling and inspirational. Since its founding in 1970, the Caravan has provided invaluable experiences for young people from all sectors of our multi-faceted society.

For their 43rd season, the show is an experimental musical inspired by the headlines and news concerning international media conglomerates. As an operatic fantasy, the show features a band of virtual pirate hackers who have ‘revoked’ the ‘Treasure of the Empire’. Pirates run into the audience space as they are chased by the Security Surveillance Police (SSP). They see the Mammon Corp Vault in front of them and realize they are trapped between the Vault & the SSP. They decide to climb the front of the Vault, hoping to escape on the other side. Near

the top of the Vault, they are suddenly confronted by a grasping, gurgling gargoyle and are then sucked into his ghastly mouth. This huge creature is the infamous and allpowerful Monster Mammon, complete with tentacles and three singing human heads named Raptura, Verita and Tradgia. The plot revolves around the machinations of the Mammon trying to find the ‘Treasure of the Empire’, of which the whereabouts are known only to the Hackers. The Mammon must find this treasure or else the Mammon Corp Regime will collapse. This show explores the quest for freedom of expression in political and social discourse within the world of digital and virtual media. It examines the ubiquitous presence of surveillance and probes the ethics of the dissolution of the public and democratic control over the justice and penal systems.

A stage for global performances BBC Chartering supports the Caravan Stage Company’s Tall Ship Theater by helping the team around Adriana Kelder and Paul Kirby move the ‘Amara Zee’ over the

Atlantic. On June 15, 2013, BBC Chartering loaded the 30m long and 125mt heavy tall ship on board the m/v BBC Ohio in Salerno, Italy for transport to Houston. Upon arrival in Houston the ‘Amara Zee’ is supposed to travel on its own keel to New Orleans to prepare for a last delivery of the current show, ‘Hacked…The Treasure of the Empire.’ The performance is scheduled for the end of September. Adriana Kelder, show producer and designer of the Caravan Stage Company, was excited about the successful loading. ‘When the ‘Amara Zee’ finally settled on to the deck of the BBC Ohio, a resounding cheer was heard from the crews!’ Svend Andersen, BBC Chartering’s CEO proudly said, ‘We are excited to see the Amara Zee move with BBC Chartering and we are pleased that we can help bring the Caravan Stage Company’s shows to people around the world.’ For more information please visit www.caravanstage.org

Another major milestone has been reached! As part of its fleet rejuvenation program BBC Chartering has just completed a vessel program which is known as the ‘BBC Everest’ series. In honor of the ‘birth town’ of the series the last vessel was named ‘BBC Xingang’, marking an exception to the forerunning rocky landmarks Everest, Fuji, Kibo, Mont Blanc, Olympus, Rushmore, and Vesuvius. It was this June when the last and eighth member of this program the ‘BBC Xingang’ left the shipyard and commenced her service for BBC Chartering. Like her seven sisters she is a 9,300dwt vessel and features 2x 350mt lifting capacity. With her compact dimensions

this vessel series is a highly flexible workhorse for global heavy lift and project cargo assignments. With a conventional design, the 125.80m long vessel has a bulbous bow, a wheelhouse in the aft and an open water type stern, single rudder and a controllable pitch propeller driven by a medium speed diesel engine. The vessel’s cargo holds have been constructed with a double skin, a double bottom strengthened for heavy cargoes (up to 16mt/m²) and side tanks. The cargo hold area is divided into two parts by a vertical HFO tank arrangement contributing to the torsional

strength of the 22.0m wide hull. Cargo hold #1 is 18.85m long and has a minimum beam of 4.97m and a maximum beam of 16.65m. Cargo hold #2 is 57,20m long and 16,97m wide. Both holds are box shaped and designed to carry tween-deck hatch covers but are also laid out for the carriage of containers. Also there is a service gallery allowing a safe supervision of cargo operations. The vessel is fitted for trading the Great Lakes and the carriage of dangerous goods of all IMO classes. As reported before, BBC Chartering also engages in one other new building heavy lift fleet program. The remaining program under way is the 14 unit counting

14,360dwt ‘BBC Amber’ series featuring 2x 400mt lifting capacity. The program is expected to be completed by the end of 2013. Here the tenth new building vessel, the ‘BBC Emerald’ was delivered this June. With meanwhile 18 of 22 heavy lift vessels in service BBC Chartering’s CEO Svend Andersen, states, ‘We are moving closer to accomplish a 22 vessel counting heavy lift new building program. Although the economic conditions remain difficult we continue our mission in a competitive industry and help our clients raising the bar of performance in the field of MPV / HL shipping worldwide.’

Doing the ordinary seeing the exceptional BBC Chartering transports steel structures for the new World Trade Center Transportation Hub

With its spectacular soaring design, the new World Trade Center (WTC) Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) Transportation Hub promises not only to bring architectural beauty to downtown Manhattan but also to significantly improve mass-transit connections throughout the region. Designed by celebrated architect Santiago Calatrava, the transportation hub will feature pedestrian concourses to existing and future transportation services. Construction on the project began in 2007. Located close to the northeast corner of the WTC site at Church and Fulton Street (between Towers 2 and 3), the transportation hub is designed to accommodate 250,000 pedestrians per day - which corresponds to projected ridership numbers for 2025. The temporary station can

accommodate up to 50,000 daily pedestrians. The transportation hub‘s innovative design features retractable 150-foot-high, glass-and-steel ‘wings‘ that will allow natural light to pass through to the rail platforms located 60 feet below street level. The new WTC Transportation Hub will include: • A multi-story central transit hall designed in the style of Grand Central Terminal, incorporating a lower concourse, an upper (balcony) concourse, a public waiting area, and first-class retail amenities. • Three full-service 10-car platforms, as well as an additional platform to accommodate service needs and five tracks.

• An integrated network of underground pedestrian connections to access locations on and around the WTC site, including the five WTC office towers, the Memorial and Museum, Hudson River ferry terminals, the World Financial Center, PATH trains, 13 subway lines, and the proposed JFK rail link.

has committed approximately $1.92 billion toward the more than $3.2 billion project, with the Port Authority investing the difference. The full-service, regional transportation hub will replace the temporary WTC PATH station currently in place and is scheduled to completed and opened on December 17, 2015.

• Retail facilities of approximately 200,000 square feet within the transit hub and the pedestrian concourses to accommodate a wide variety of restaurants and stores.

The BBC Alabama and BBC Danube loaded 5,000mt of steel structures for the WTC hub in Porto Marghera this June. Although this may just be a tiny part of a giant project, BBC Chartering is proud its services help to bring this new icon to life.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Transportation and through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), is building the 800,000-square-foot hub. The FTA
