Fernand Braudel – IFER Fellowships

The "Fernand Braudel-IFER" programme offers postdoctoral fellowships in social and human science (SHS) for: - incoming fellows : it offers foreign researchers (or researchers living abroad) the possibility to do research in France - outgoing fellows : it offers French researchers (or researchers living in France) the possibility to do research in another European country These research stays are designed to enable researchers to - Carry out an individual research project at a host laboratory - Integrate scientific networks in France or other European countries - Build lasting partnerships between their home institution and the host institutions. Host laboratories in France (a university or attached to the CNRS -National Center for Scientific Research- or an MSH institution belonging to the National Network of Social Sciences and Humanities Research Institutes) are chosen by the researchers themselves in collaboration with the scientific direction of FMSH, which can help applicants to make the necessary contacts and to set up the required cooperation. Likewise, French researchers on research stays in other European countries must be affiliated with a research laboratory at a university or other research entity in the host country. Applicable scientific disciplines All social and human science disciplines are eligible. An interdisciplinary approach to research topics is encouraged. Length of the fellowship 9 months (however, the length of the research stay can be adjusted if warranted for scientific reasons) Amount of the fellowship The amount of the monthly stipend for room & board and living expenses is €2,000 (euros). Travel expenses (one round trip) are paid following agreement between the fellow and the FMSH. Medical insurance is provided for researchers hosted in France. Upon request, additional funding may be granted to cover documentation costs or participation in scientific events held in France or in the host country.

The Fernand Braudel-IFER fellowships is divided into two sub-programmes: 1. Postdoctoral fellowships for research stays in France (for researchers that belong to foreign research centres) – incoming • The “Fernand Braudel” (incoming) programme targets applicants from all countries except Germany. Note: German researchers must apply through the specific DAAD-FMSH programme. 2. Postdoctoral fellowships for research stays in other European countries (for researchers that belong to a French research centre) – outgoing • The Clemens Heller Programme is aimed at applicants residing in France that would like to benefit from a research stay in Germany. • The “Fernand Braudel” (outgoing) programme is aimed at applicants residing in France that would like to carry out a research stay in a European country (EU members and associated countries) other than Germany.
