land, thus, is not surprising.Numerousjuvenilesof Fritzolenelluslapworthi were found in the lower part of the ForteauFormation in a quarry in the Bird Cove regionof westernNewfoundland.Theseprovidesomeinsight into the ontogenyof this trilobite. The trilobitesarelargelyflattened, preservedin fine shales, often surroundedby patchesofcarbonateand enclosedin these. The ontogenyofoleneliid trilobites is generallydifferentiatedinto five stages, but anaprotaspidand metaprotaspidstagesareunknown. The ontogenyis known describedfor the cephala,as the thorax and pygidium are unknown in most taxa. The earlieststagesare about 0.6-0.7 mm long and may belong to stageII. Specimensof stagesIII-V are also presentin the coilection, showingthe ontogeneticchangesofthe species.Considerabledifferencescan be seento the ontogenyin the getus Olenellus.

A new drill corewasmadein 2013in the Figelsing areaeastof Lund to investigate the Lower-Middle Ordovician successionof the region. The Figelsing areais the siteof the GSSPfor the baseof the upper ordovician Sandbianstage, and the drill corewasplacedin the vicinity of the stratotipe sectionto gain insight into the succession, asthe outcrop situationis lessthan superb. The drill coreis dominatedby dark greyto black shalesof the Toyen,Almelund and SularpShaleformations. The drilling wasstoppedat a depth of 64.87mand endsin the Lower OrdovicianToyen Shale(57.15-64.87m).
