Course Overview This course covers fundamentals of groundwater transport, emphasizing the role of contaminant transport in the groundwater system, the relation of flow and transport and geologic structure, and the prediction and remediation of contaminated groundwater. The course will cover the following topics: review on groundwater flow and associated parameter estimation methods, sources and types of groundwater contamination, data collection methods, contaminant transport mechanisms, sorption and other chemical reactions, numerical modeling of contaminant transport, nonaqueous-phase liquids (NAPLs), hydrogeological site investigations, groundwater remediation and design. The objective of this course is to introduce students the fundamentals of groundwater flow and transport and the application aspects of the new measurement and remediation technologies in the field of groundwater contamination.
Course Requirements Assignments Assignments will be due either one or two weeks after they are handed out depending on their length. Grades will be reduced 10%-20% for each day late.
Exams Exams will include one midterm and a final exam.
