PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: Hanks’ Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS), Modified

Hanks’ balanced salt solution (HBSS) can be used as a temporary diluting, washing, irrigating or transporting solution for cell or tissue culture. It provides a buffering system to maintain the physiological pH range and osmotic balance of the culture media, and provides cells with a source of water and essential inorganic ions, and a carbohydrate as an energy source.

This product contains Sodium Bicarbonate and Phenol Red. This product does not contain Calcium Chloride (Ca++) or Magnesium Sulfate (Mg++). The pH range of this solution is 7.2 - 7.6. The formulation is listed below. COMPONENT

Store at room temperature (15 - 30°C). Stable for one year from date of manufacture. Refer to Directions for Use below for further details on storage and stability after the addition of antibiotics. Contents guaranteed sterile if seal is not tampered with.

If desired, add 5 mL of Penicillin G and Streptomycin Solution (100X, Catalog # 07500) to 500 mL bottle to achieve a final concentration of 100 U/mL Penicillin and 100 µg/mL of Streptomycin. Following the addition of antibiotics, medium should be stored at 2 - 8°C and used within one week.
