Breakfast Meeting with the guide and departure to Valea Prahovei Arrival at Sinaia Visit at Peles Castle. Peles Castle in Sinaia, the summer residence of the kings of Romania, was built at the desire of King Carol I of Romania (1866 - 1914), according to the designs of the architects Johannes Schultz and Karel Liman, and was decorated by the famous decorators J. D. Heymann of Hamburg, August Bembé of Mainz and Berhard Ludwig of Vienna. Peles Castle may be considered the most important historical building of Romania, a unique piece of its kind, and it is due to its historical and artistic value one of the most outstanding monuments of the kind in the second half of the 19th century

Biserica Neagra: Counting over 500 years of existence, Biserica Neagra is the most representative historical monument of Brasov, the largest gothic church in Transilvania and as certain historians say the largest religious building between Vienna and Istanbul. Moreover, it shelters one of the largest organ in Europe and the most comprehensive old carpet collection in Asia Minor. Visit to Sf. Nicolae Church. As old as 1292, Sf. Nicolae Church dominates due to its impressive dimensions Scheii BraSovului. The church was raised in stone starting with 1495 by the locals with the support of the ruler of Tara Romaneasca, Neagoe Basarab.

Visit to Piata Sfatului. Piata Sfatului in Braşov is perhaps the most well-known and visited place in town, both by the tourists and by the locals as a leisure place and a meeting point for friends. Various cultural and artistic events are often held here, outdoor concerts or theme fairs (folk artists’ fair, flower fair, etc). 8h00 pm Buffet dinner in the hotel.

 Day 4 (Wednesday 28.09.2011): POIANA BRASOV – SIGHISOARA – POIANA BRASOV 08h00 am 09h00 am 11h00 am

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Sighisoara. Arrival at Sighisoara. Visit in the Old Town Located on Tarnava Mare, Sighisoara is a well-known tourist destination and may be considered a perl of Europe, as one of the few still inhabited walled cities, on the mainland. The first documentary mention of the city was in 1280 under the name of «Castrum Sex», though there is evidence of its existence since 1191. Built by the Saxon settlers who were in charge with the Hungarian kingdom frontier security in the 12th-13th centuries A.D., the city gathered within its walls Saxon, Romanian and Hungarian craftsmen. Therefore, the city had three names in all the three languages: SCHAESSBURG, SIGHISOARA, SEGESVAR. Moreover, the craftsmen were organized in guilds which administered a defense tower each. The length of the defense walls is of 960 m, and only 9 of them out of 14 were preserved, besides the clock tower.

Day 5 (Thursday 29.09.2011): POIANA BRASOV – SIBIU – POIANA BRASOV 08h00 am 09h00 am 11h30 am

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Sibiu. Arrival in Sibiu. Visit to Astra Museum.

ASTRA Museum, the most important institution founded by the Transilvanian Association for Romanian Literature and Romanian People Culture, was inaugurated on 19th August 1905. It was born out the Romanians from Ardeal wish to define their own ethno-cultural identity in the ethnic conglomerate of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and on the background of the cultural emancipation of all the peoples in Central and South-Eastern Europe, having as a model the already built museums of the Saxons, Hungarians and Székelys.

Piata Mare Piata Mare (The Great Plaza), also known as Ringul cel Mare, 142 m length and 93 m width, is the historical centre of Sibiu. Early 15th century it is mentioned as cereal market and later known as a place used for feasts and various events. The Saxons also used to

Known in German as Hermannstadt, or in Hungarian as Nagyszeben, Sibiu city is one of the most important economic and cultural cities in South Transilvania. Located between Fagaras, Cindrel and Lotrului Mountains, Sibiu is situated in Cibinului depression, crossed by the river bearing the same name, taken over from the Latin name of the city, i.e. Cibiniensis/Cibinium. On the other hand, the city is delimited North and East from the Podisul Tarnavelor going down to Valea Cibinului, through Dealul Gusteritei.

The guilders used to throw in this place barbecue parties with oxen and rams, selected wines in huge barrels, with songs and games for all the city inhabitants. The guilds meetings used to take place in Piata Mare when they had to organize for the defense of the city and, on the other hand, outdoor executions took place until the end of the 17th century of the law tresspassers. The South side is an architectural monument due to the unique Medieval style in the area. In 2006 the market was paved with cubic stone and an old grid fountain was placed there. The towers Located between Piata Mare and Piata Mica, Turnul Sfatului, finished in 1588, is one of the most well-known monuments of Sibiu. During the construction works in 1586, the tower collapsed and in doing so it killed the painter Iohan David who was working at the decoration of the vault. Only the lower part and the first floor were maintained from that building, and the rest was built during the years. Now the building has 7 stories, with fronts marked by openings which remind of ramparts. Turnul scarilor is a one-story massive construction in brick, with a vaulted passway at the first level. It is the way of access to the stairs making the connection between the Upper and Lower City. Turnul Scarii Aurarilor is a two-story construction plus attick, having access through the vaulted passway to Piata Aurarilor. Nowadays both stories are turned into dwellings. 5h30 pm 8h00 pm
