Several Reelin-positive cells are localized to the hilus (CA4) of hippocampal complex. M = dentate inner molecular layer, GC = granular cell layer, ×40 magnification. The role of reelin, a secretory glycoprotein involved in normal lamination of the brain, in depression and schizophrenia is presented in the article by Fatemi et al in this issue (pages 654–663). Those results suggest that abnormalities in reelin are not restricted to schizophrenia and highlight the need for psychiatric control groups in molecular psychiatry studies.
