Sir, The disabled population of Goa constitute 1.17% (15749) of the total population of 1347668.1 Out of this total population, there are 4393 visually, 1000 hearing, 4910 mobility, 3578 mentally and 1868 speech impaired people. In recognition that persons with disability are an important resource, the State government has taken few newer initiatives. The results of the present record based analysis [Table 1] from 2001 to 2006, to assess if the grants and schemes launched by the government of Goa2 reach the disabled people, shows that the current social welfare schemes do not reach the disabled effectively in the state, even if they exist. Furthermore, there are schemes to assist the NGO’s working for the disabled. A number of NGOs (Asha deep, Disha charitable trust, Holy cross, People’s school, Daddy’s home, Gujrati samaj, Sanjay school, Peace heaven, Lokwishwas, Saint francis Xavier, Sangath, Atmaviswas, Caritas, Disability Rights Association
