GM Powertrain has built all of its industrial engines to have the capability of being fueled with gasoline, propane or natural gas. Propane and natural gas have higher octane ratings than gasoline, but they also have lower lubricity, so engines must be designed specifically to handle these fuels. GM Powertrain incorporates special features into its industrial engines to ensure long, efficient engine life, no matter what the choice of fuel.

Exhaust valve seat inserts ensure an excellent seal between the valve and valve seat. Exhaust valves made of special materials resist the higher temperatures and corrosive nature of propane and natural gas.

All GM Powertrain engine plants meet or exceed QS 9000 quality process standards.

Slightly higher compression ratios ensure optimum propane and natural gas combustion. OEMs can select the intake manifold that is appropriate for their choice of fuel. Power and torque figures obtained per SAE J1995. Actual power levels may vary depending on OEM fuel selections, calibration, and application.

With the advancement of regulatory requirements and an increasingly competitive global market, OEM’s have a hard choice to make regarding electronic engine control technology. If OEM’s choose MEFI, they are providing their customers with engine controls that are built upon 30+ years of General Motors automotive heritage as well as functionality developed in concert with GMPT’s industrial OEM’s and integration partners. GMPT MEFI controllers are based on high volume GM automotive controllers. This provides OEM’s with electronics that are resident in millions of vehicles worldwide, while also providing specialized software features: sequential multiport fuel injection or PWM modulated fuel delivery, multiple ignition systems ( HVS, DIS, or CNP), full closed loop fuel control, RPM governor control accommodating multiple industrial applications, OBD-II diagnostics, and much more.
