FACTS: • Globally, there are more than 1.4 billion adults, 20 and older, were overweight, at least 300 million of them obese.

• More than 40 million children under the age of five were overweight in 2011. • The key causes are increased consumption of energydense foods high in saturated fats and sugars, and reduced physical activity.

Conclusion •

Adipocytes alone may constitute the major source of inflammatory adipokines and cytokines.



Hypoxia may be a sufficient stimulus for adiopocyte dependent inflammatory mediators release.



Our result with YC-1 suggest HIF-1α - dependent and independent interplay in the production of these inflammatory cytokines.
