What is Ingeo fiber? Ingeo fiber Ingeo fiber is Cargill Dow's brand name for the first man-made fiber derived from 100% annually renewable resources. The process starts with an abundant, natural raw material (today corn) that can be easily and efficiently converted into plant sugars, which are then fermented using technology, which is similar to making yoghurt. Other potential feedstocks could be rice and potatoes (and even grass and straw). The fermentation products are subsequently transformed into a high-performance polymer called polylactide from which the branded Ingeo fibers and filament yarns are extruded. The production and use of Ingeo fibers means less greenhouse gases are added to the atmosphere in comparison with traditional synthetic fibres. Compostability and chemical recyclability also mean that under the right conditions and with the right handling the complete life cycle of production, consumption, disposal and reuse is completely closed.
