All students should apply for and be admitted into the undergraduate teacher education program at the completion of the first semester at ODU. Delaying admission to the undergraduate teacher education program will adversely affect the ability to complete this program in 4 years. Please refer to the catalog and consult your advisor for additional requirements, prerequisites, and eligibility for teacher licensure in Virginia. VCCS transfer students who wish to complete ODU'S IDS - Teacher Prep degree within 2 years from the date of transfer to ODU are encouraged to start the Teacher Prep program the semester following graduation from the VCCS institution. For example: if your VCCS graduation is at the end of the spring 2013 semester, enroll in ODU’s IDS - Teacher Prep program in summer 2013. Attendance in summer classes will be required to complete this degree in four years from the first date of enrollment in the VCCS program. **ENGL 370 is not guaranteed to be offered summer semester, so a re-ordering of courses may be necessary to ensure graduation within 2 years of enrollment at ODU. Please refer to the ODU summer course offerings and work with your academic advisor to ensure a timely graduation. Upper Division General Education is satisfied through professional education sequence. Meeting Praxis req. before finishing SPED 400 is strongly recommended. Requirements for graduation include a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.80 overall and in the major, a grade of C or better in all courses required for the major, including prerequisite courses, 120 credit hours, which must include both a minimum of 30 credit hours overall and 12 credit hours in upper-level courses in the major program from Old Dominion University, completion of ENGL 110C, ENGL 211C or 221C or 231C, and a writing intensive (W) course in the major with a grade of C or better, and completion of Senior Assessment.
