International Arbitration The international arbitration team at Mayer Brown Paris handles both international commercial arbitration cases as well as investor/State disputes. The international arbitration team works in close coordination with Mayer Brown’s other attorneys in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, including with attorneys working in other practices (litigation, international trade, energy, mining, projects finance and governmental relations). All the lawyers of our team in Paris are admitted to the Paris Bar, certain of them being also admitted to act in Colombia or Lebanon. They all have been law lecturers in French or foreign universities. The team has the ability to manage international arbitration cases wherever the seat of the arbitration is located and can conduct proceedings in a variety of languages (English, French, Arabic or Spanish). The members of the Paris international arbitration team have been involved in both institutional arbitrations before the world’s main arbitration bodies such as the ICC, ICSID, LCIA, GAFTA, AFA and others, and ad hoc proceedings, most notably pursuant to the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. Recently, the team was involved in cases which applied various national laws including French, Gambian, Romanian, New Jersey, Lebanese, Tunisian, Egyptian, Argentinean and English law. In investors/ State disputes, the international law is also applicable. Several of these cases involved complex parallel proceedings such as criminal proceedings, US discovery procedures, and other civil cases in a variety of jurisdictions. The team has particular expertise in investor/State arbitrations, mainly under the World Bank’s ICSID Convention and pursuant to bilateral or multilateral investment treaties. The team also has significant experience before French cour ts regarding the recognition, execution, and annulment of arbitral awards, as well as on other judicial proceedings related to arbitration.
