Stewardship is planned giving and does not leave giving to chance. It challenges us to plan. It asks us to appraise – deliberately – what we are doing with our time, our talent and our treasure.

From Father Lawrence, Walk for Life West Coast on Saturday January 25th

Last year (it seems odd to say that already) St. Raymond began a Respect for Life group. We have about 35 parishioners in this group right now. What are the expectations of membership? First of all, prayer: prayer that all human life will be cherished and protected from conception to natural death. Second, and this is optional, social action: social action to call attention to the injustice of abortion and euthanasia. That’s it. Anyone can join this group and all are encouraged to. To sign on just come to the office and let us know. You will get periodic emails with information, actions and activities from a Respect for Life perspective. This Saturday is the West Coast Walk for Life in San Francisco. The pre-walk presentations begin in Civic Center Plaza at 12:30pm with the walk down Market Street beginning an hour later. Last year more than 50,000 people were estimated to have participated in the walk. I have been going to the walk for several years and I am always impressed by the number of young people there. I would say that about half of the walkers are under 25 years of age. It is amazing to see all the young support for this cause. These youth have grown up under the shadow of abortion. They know that their numbers have been greatly reduced by abortion. They want a different world for themselves and they are enthusiastic about it! Shannon Collyer, our youth minister, is passionately helping our young people understand the beauty of human sexuality and its place in God’s plan. She is organizing a bus for the young people of our parish and their parents to attend the Walk for Life. We hope that many of our young people will experience this amazing event and grow in their desire to make our country safe again for all unborn children.

In Christ,

Fr. Lawrence D’Anjou

From Our Principal At this month's Coffee With Catherine, I discussed the religious program at St. Raymond School. I explained how our faith formation has the highest priority for both the school and parents. Helping each child become disciples and form a life-long love of the Lord and being knowledgeable about the traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church is critical. I especially feel the middle school years are a time of reflection with retreats and opportunities throughout the school day to form a strong moral conscience. I hope the adults, teachers, staff and parents model the Christ-like virtues we want the children to learn.

Friday, January 31st -$35 per ticket Saturday, February 1st -$40 per ticket We will be serving salad, bread, pasta, crab, and dessert, along with coffee and tea. Roasted chicken is also available for those who do not want a crab dinner; the chicken dinner must be purchased in advance.

Doors open at 5:30pm both evenings and we will begin serving at 7:00pm.

Bible Time Line a 24 part DVD Series

The Mass Explained Inspiring speaker Fr. Larry Richards presents exciting and powerful insights into the history, spirituality, and biblical foundations of the Liturgy of the Eucharist. He opens the door for us to enter more profoundly into this most perfect prayer and unite our offering with that of the priest. This will change the way you experience this most sacred of all mysteries, the source and summit of our lives. Parishioner Comments It jolted me out of stagnation! It has renewed my love for the Mass and for Jesus. - Nancy - Plattsburgh, NY

Dust off those bibles and join fellow parishioners in an on-going journey through the bible. This 24 week experience will be presented in three 8-week parts (Fall, Winter, & Spring). All are welcome — no previous experience required! Jeff ’s teaching via DVD is followed by discussions in small groups. If you want to purchase the Study Guide, please call Glad Tidings in Pleasanton at 925-847-9787. Some parishioners attended Jeff Cavins’ quick overview earlier this year. Jeff Cavins is recognized both nationally and internationally as one of the most effective and engaging speakers In the Church today. Few can communicate their love for Jesus Christ with as much zeal, clarity, and enthusiasm. Over the past several decades, Jeff has dedicated his life to developing The Great Adventure: A Journey through the Bible, a practical, interactive program that helps people read the “big picture” of God’s plan in Sacred Scripture and understand its meaning for their lives. The Great Adventure presents the entire sweep of the Bible in a way that is easy to understand and genuinely fun.
