LC-8A

Shimadzu Preparative Liquid Chromatograph The LC-8A has been designed to offer simple scale-up from nanogram to gram quantities. The flow rate range is from 0.1 to 150mL / min so analytical separations become preparative separations simply by changing the position of two switches, the column selection valve, and the flow rate set-point. The savings in time and money afforded by not making unnecessary hardware changes between analytical and preparative runs are significant, not to mention that the operational conditions were determined on an analytical, low mobile phase consumption system.

Preparative LC in a wide scale range

Easy setting of operational conditions

The flow rate of mobile phase is adjustable over a wide range (0.1~ 150mL / min). Sample injection may be made in any of the operational modes including manual, pumped, and automated. These two features provide one of the widest ranges in scale available in preparative HPLC.

The low flow rate of 0.1mL / min means that analytical HPLC can be readily carried out by simply using an analytical column. The optimum set of operational conditions for preparative HPLC can be rapidly determined with a minimum consumption of mobile phase, through the use of analytical columns.

E c o n o m i cal operation

Minimal pulsation in mobile phase stream

The full system microprocessor control provides for time programming of the mobile phase flow rate and / or the switching of mobile phases. In this way, the flow rate can be automatically reduced during the intervals between actual preparative runs, thus minimizing the consumption of mobile phase.

A pulse compensation function is provided to minimize the stream pulses in the flow rate range of 0.1~ 20mL / min. so that analytical HPLC can be performed with high reliability.

C o m p r e s sion ratio control

High resolution

The compression ratio control function ensures accurate flow control, even of mobile phases having different physical properties.

Use of the most suitable LC mode (selected out of the gradient elution mode, the recycle mode, and the column switching mode) and a suitable column provides exceptionally high resolution.

LC-8A Solvent Delivery Unit Simple, versatile programmability provides economy and self maintenance.

Pulse free, user selectable compression ratio provides reliable, accurate solvent delivery.

The LC-8A is programmable too. Flow rate, pressure, as well as maximum and minimum set points are entered through a simple interactive dialog via the built-in fluorescent display and keypad. In addition, up to 32 steps may be time programmed into the battery backed-up memory of the LC8A pump. These programmable features include those mentioned above as well as the ability to control 2 reed relay contact closures and 2 solenoid valves. This programmability enables the user to economize on mobile phase consumption by reducing flow rate during intervals between separation runs. It also allows for the use of the optional FCV-130AL, which provides automated rinsing of the pump head via a separate rinse pump and reservoir and the selection of up to three solvents for step gradient, column-rinsing applications or pump-loaded sample introduction.

The LC-8A has a built-in pulse compensation function to prevent flow pulsation problems in separations. The compressibility factor set point provides for accurate flow rates even if solvents with different physical properties are utilized.

Switching to an analytical column permits rapid determination of the best operational conditions for preparative HPLC. The column switching capability is also effective for preparative isolation of a particular compound from a difficult-toseparate sample, through switching from one column to another during a run.
