Abstract:

The existence of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people is becoming more and more visible in Vietnam. A number of recent research studies have found that LGBT people are in great need of support services from social work. However, in reality, there are very few services avaible for LGBT users, and there are only few of them accessing to those services as well. This article will analyse the international experience of social work with LGBT people in nations where social work most developed, focusing mainly on the experience of the U.S. and Ireland. Based on these international experiences, the author offers a number of suggestions and recommendations to promote the model of social work with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Vietnam in the current context.
