Winter 2013

The sun is always shining at the Greenwood Lake Public Library! A Note from the Director A New Year is here and the Library Staff and Board of Trustees wish you a very happy 2013! Be sure to include the Library in your winter plans—enjoy a great read, movie or music, or attend one of our many entertaining and educational programs for all ages. Take advantage of our seven public access computers, free Wi-Fi, or our museum passes, which are available for check out so you can enjoy a special family outing! Local History Donations – The Library continues to seek donations of yearbooks with Greenwood Lake graduates from Tuxedo, Monroe Woodbury, or Warwick High Schools, as well as from the Greenwood Lake Elementary and Middle Schools. We would also welcome donations of the Greenwood Lake News prior to 1984 and for July through December 1989. Lastly, if you should have any copies of the Greenwood Lake Newsletter or the Greenwood Lake Buzzer (both of which existed before the Greenwood Lake & West Milford News) that you would be willing to donate or loan for copying, the Library would be most appreciative. These items will be added to our Local History Reference collection for everyone to share. We will acknowledge your generosity to the community in “Our Special Thanks” column of our newsletter unless, of course, you prefer to remain anonymous. If you are interested in donating or loaning any of this material, please call Elizabeth Cisek, Reference Supervisor, at Ext. 105, or Joan Carvajal, Library Director, at Ext. 103. Suggestions – Have a suggestion for a new program, book, CD, DVD, etc.? Let us know; we’d love to hear it!

Ongoing Book Sale – We would like to remind you that the Library offers a continuous book sale throughout the year. Stop in and shop for your favorites! Budget News – In an effort to keep our taxpayers informed about the Library budget vote process, we’d like to remind you of the following: • All residents of the Greenwood Lake Union Free School District are eligible to vote; our vote is NOT restricted to Village residents. • The Library budget vote is separate from the school budget vote and is held at the Library. Your Library tax appears as a separate line item on your school tax bill. • The Library’s fiscal year runs from July through June. • The Library schedules a budget hearing at least ten (10) days prior to the budget vote from 1-3 p.m., which is publicized in The Warwick Valley Dispatch and The Times Herald Record. Patrons are welcome to come to review the proposed budget on the day of the hearing with Robert Fraser, Treasurer, and Sandy Newman, Assistant Treasurer. For those who are unable to make the hearing, the budget materials will be available for review at the Front Desk. For questions, please call Sandy Newman at Ext. 102. • The 2013-2014 budget vote is on Thursday, May 16th, 2013, from 2-8 p.m. at the Library. • Our board meeting dates are listed on our web site at www.gwllibrary.org and the public is always welcome.

Wishing you the best in 2013, Joan Carvajal, Library Director
