PREREQUISITE

MAC 1105, with a grade of at least “C” or required score on HCC placement test. III. GRADING 10% a) HOMEWORK Online homework using WEBASSIGN will be required for this course. The program will grade your homework, so you may access your average for each homework assignment. The average of these grades will be your homework grade. The section due dates located on the tentative course schedule. SUGGESTION: As you work through the online homework questions, you should write down the directions and problems neatly and keep the work organized so that you will have this to refer to when studying for the quizzes and tests

5% b) QUIZZES There will be 4 online quizzes given. The due dates are attached and are also noted online. The lowest quiz grade will be dropped, and the 3 remaining quizzes will be averaged. Once you are in the quiz, you cannot x out of it or close it and come back later. You must submit the quiz once you have started it. WARNING: DO NOT START THE QUIZ UNTIL YOU HAVE THE TIME TO COMPLETE IT. If you do close the quiz without submitting it, it will lock you out of the quiz and all future assignments. If you miss a quiz due date because you were locked out of the system, then you will receive a zero for that quiz. You will be allowed 2 attempts on the quiz. One quiz grade will be dropped. If you do not take a quiz, it will be the one dropped. If you miss more than one quiz, then each additional one missed will count as a zero. WARNING: DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO DO HOMEWORK OR QUIZZES. SOMETIMES COMPUTERS FREEZE, BREAKDOWN, ETC. ALLOW YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME. 5% c.) ACTIVITIES There will be four activities. These are in class worksheets where students will work together in groups of 3 or 4. You can use your notes, book, etc to complete these activities. They will be turned in at the end of class. If you miss any activity, a grade of 0 will be recorded. Group activities must be completed in class. 80% d) TESTS: Four 100-point tests and a mandatory comprehensive final exam will be administered as outlined on the tentative lecture schedule. If a student misses a test, then the final exam will count twice. More than one test missed will mean a zero on that test. If you must be absent on the day of a test, you may arrange to take the test before the scheduled date, but not later than the scheduled date. If you take all the tests and your final exam grade is higher than your lowest test grade, then the final exam will replace the lowest test grade and will be counted twice in your average. If the final exam grade is not higher than your lowest test grade, then it will count as one test grade. No make-up tests will be given. All work must be shown for full credit on exam questions. IV. FINAL GRADE The final grade is computed as follows Activities 5% Quizzes 5% Homework 10% Tests 70% Final Exam 10% 100% V. ATTENDANCE Students are expected to attend all class sessions. A record of attendance will be kept. Unexcused absences in excess of the number of credit hours may result in the student receiving a failing grade for the class. The student should be aware that in most circumstances several absences, excused or otherwise, place an increased burden on the student to successfully complete the course. It is extremely important to be on time to class and to stay until the class is over.

Please do not come up to the desk to get your paper when you come in late. I will get it to you by the end of the class. 3.) Please put your cell phones on vibrator mode or turn them off. No cell phones out during class. 4.) Please do not bring food or drink into the classroom except for water. 5.) If you come in late or have to leave early, sit in the back of the room. 6.) Anyone who is not registered for the class may not sit in on the class. This includes friends, guests and children. 7.) No laptop computers are allowed out during class. IX. INCOMPLETE Before an incomplete grade is given all of the following requirements must be satisfied: 1) You must have completed at least two-thirds of the course. 2) You must have at least a C average 3) Is an option only in the case of documented emergencies. INCOMPLETES MUST BE APPROVED BY THE INSTRUCTOR AND CONFIRMED BY THE DIVISION DIRECTOR.

X. YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING ITEMS FOR THIS COURSE IN ADDITION TO THE TEXTBOOK PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR CALCULATOR TO EVERY CLASS. 1) Calculator (Graphic) (Computer based calculators Such as T1-92 and TI-89 are not allowed) 2) Graph Paper 3) Pencils (must be used on all quizzes and tests) 4) Access to WEBASSIGN

XI. CHEATING CHEATING IS A SERIOUS OFFENSE. ANYONE CAUGHT CHEATING ON A QUIZ OR TEST WILL BE GIVEN AN AUTOMATIC ZERO. THIAT GRADE WILL NOT BE REPLACED WITH A HIGHER GRADE ON THE FINAL EXAM.

XII. Recording of Class Sessions: A student shall not, without my express authorization, make or receive any recording, including but not limited to audio and video recordings, of any class, co-curricular meeting, organizational meeting, or meeting with me. Further, it is not permissible to post my class lectures/course materials on the web.

XIII. REQUEST FOR ACCOMMODATIONS Any student whose disability falls within the American Disabilities Act (ADA) and requires accommodations should contact the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities. The Brandon office is located in the Student Service Building Room 109. You may also reach the office by phone at (813) 253-7914. Requests for accommodations should be submitted to the instructor within the first two weeks of the course. XIV. ACADEMIC SUCCESS CENTER The math tutoring is located in BLRC200. The Academic Success Center will be open to all students on walk-in basis and all services are free to HCC students. Each student will need to sign in every time they enter the lab. In order for students to receive consistent instruction, students need to bring with them their class notes so the material can be taught using the same methods. The hours of operation are Monday-Thursday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Friday from 9 AM to 1 PM. It will be closed on Saturday, Sunday and all college holidays.

XV. WITHDRAWAL The last day to withdraw without grade penalty is October 31, 2011. .
