ROOM 1 - Infants & 1st cycle Primary

Creativity and communication through story and drama

Carol Read

(6 to 7-year-olds)

This session shows how a well-managed, wholechild approach to storytelling and drama develops pupils’ potential for creativity and helps them to become confident communicators in English. We will use an integrated combination of multisensory techniques and digital resources to explore ways to engage children in relevant issues and to link learning English to authentic culture and real content. We will also explore the role of storytelling and drama in developing positive values in today’s world.

Inma Piquer

Integrating language with arts & crafts

that is important. In this session a range of engaging activities to encourage pupils to interact with words walls will be demonstrated. We will use different types of word walls to fit with a range of different teaching contexts.

Ed Cousins Play to learn (8 to 12 year olds)

I am a firm believer that a language cannot be taught. As teachers, we can only create an environment in which it can be learned, and build pupil-teacher relationships which stimulate learning. This session looks at practical hints, tips, games and techniques on how to make learning English a pleasurable experience for your pupils. Many of these ideas will also lighten your workload and help you come up with your own techniques.

ROOM 3 - ESO & Bachillerato

(3 to 7-year-olds)

Using Arts & Crafts in the English classroom can provide a very powerful tool for learning and getting children to speak. In this hands-on talk, examples of art and crafts activities, which allow us to explore these benefits, will be demonstrated. We will also consider some useful strategies to make the most of children’s artistic creations. Some practical activities, which can easily be adapted and used in any Infant and Primary classroom, will be presented.

Frameworks for speaking at Bachillerato: the control continuum (Bachillerato)

ROOM 2 - 2nd & 3rd cycle Primary

Many Bachillerato students still fail to speak with confidence, something which is all the more important given the Ampliación de Inglés option. The session will look at a series of activity frameworks for supporting spoken output and increasing student confidence when speaking.

Word walls: more than just writing on the wall

Steven Muir Telly learning

Margie Marc

(8 to 12-year-olds)

A word wall is not just an excellent resource for developing literacy, it can also offer potential to enhance vocabulary learning and develop learner autonomy. However, the mere presence of a word wall in the classroom is not enough for learning to take place: it is what teachers and pupils do with it

(ESO & Bachillerato)

In this practical workshop we will look at range of classroom activities inspired by clips from film, TV and YouTube. These activities focus on a variety of language areas and skills, and can be adapted to use with many other clips. Most importantly, students seem to enjoy them!
