Tomorrow everything could change. When Newbery Medalist Karen Hesse says that she’s working on something a little different, you take note. From the first draft, we knew this new direction was also completely brilliant. Illustrated throughout with her own hauntingly beautiful photographs, Safekeeping is a vision of a near-future America that only Karen could write: real, gripping, and deeply personal. Radley just wants to get home to her parents in Vermont. While she was volunteering abroad, the American People's Party took power; the new president was assassinated; and the government cracked down on citizens. Travel restrictions are worse than ever, and when her plane finally lands in New Hampshire, Radley’s parents aren’t there. Exhausted; her phone dead; her credit cards worthless: Radley starts walking.

Q&A: 1. This novel is a departure from your previous work. What inspired it? Frankly, the tenor of the mid-term elections deeply disturbed me. Certain groups of people claimed to embrace and defend the U.S. Constitution and yet I suspected from what they said that they hadn't actually read the Constitution. Safekeeping began as a long, impassioned rant against what I perceived to be a misbegotten movement. It took several drafts for me to break free from the hammerlock of politics and begin to flesh out the true trajectory of the work. When I finally arrived at a story about a girl living a privileged life who must suddenly take complete respo... The Freaks from Enclave are back, and this time they’re much smarter. In this sequel to Enclave, Ann Aguirre ramps up the action and horror. If you were scared of the blood-thirsty Freaks before, brace yourself for this incredible sequel. Deuce’s whole world has changed. Down below, she was considered an adult. Now, topside in a town called Salvation, she’s a brat in need of training in the eyes of the townsfolk. She doesn’t fit in with the other girls: Deuce only knows how to fight. To make matters worse, her Hunter partner, Fade, keeps Deuce at a distance. Her feelings for Fade haven’t changed, but he seems not to want her around anymore. Confused and lonely, she starts looking for a way out. Deuce signs up to serve in the summer patrols—those who make sure the planters can work the fields without danger. It should be routine, but things have been changing on the surface, just as they did below ground. The Freaks have grown smarter. They’re watching. Waiting. Planning. The monsters don’t intend to let Salvation survive, and it may take a girl like Deuce to turn back the tide. PRAISE

Praise for Enclave: “Emily Bauer effectively voices the pride and fear that mingle in Deuce as she and her enigmatic partner, Fade, carry out their job of protecting and feeding their clan.” — AudioFile Magazine “Ann Aguirre’s dystopian novel, set after war and plague destroyed New York City and most of civilization relocated to enclaves underground, becomes all the more convincing through Emily Bauer’s deliberate narration…Bauer’s voice perfectly reflects [Deuce’s] amazement as she encounters things like canned food and flush toilets for the first time.” —School Library Journal “For fans of The Hunger Games.”—Publishers Weekly ANN AGUIRRE is a national bestselling author whose first novel for young adults, Enclave, was praised as “for fans of The Hunger Games” by Publishers Weekly. The idea was simple: revisit the idea of Adam and Eve with bestselling author and Feiwel and Friends alum, Katherine Applegate writing the girl’s voice and her husband Michael Grant, New York Times bestselling author of the Gone series, writing the boy’s. None of us were prepared for what happened when they took the idea, flipped it on its head, and ran with it. Together, this husband and wife team, both masters of the genre, have created a romantic sci-fi thriller for everyone -- with strong characters, great action, and a gripping plot. In the beginning, there was an apple— And then there was a car crash, a horrible injury, and a hospital. But before Evening Spiker's head clears a strange boy named Solo is rushing her to her mother’s research facility. There, under the best care available, Eve is left alone to heal. Just when Eve thinks she will die —not from her injuries, but from boredom—her mother gives her a special project: Create the perfect boy. Using an amazingly detailed simulation, Eve starts building a boy from the ground up. Eve is creating Adam. And he will be just perfect . . . won’t he? PRAISE

From Eve and Adam: I am thinking of an apple when the streetcar hits and my leg severs and my ribs crumble and my arm is no longer an arm but something unrecognizable, wet and red. An apple. It was in a vendor's stall at the farmers' market off Powell. I'd noticed it because it was so weirdly out of place, a defiant crimson Mcintosh in an army of dull green Granny Smiths. When you die--and I realize this as I hurtle through the air like a wounded bird--you should be thinking about love. If not love, at the very least you should be counting up your sins or wondering why you didn't cross at the light. But you should not be thinking about an appl...
