Make tracks with Tila beads designed by Shoshana Rubin

Make this urban-chic bracelet with two curving bands of Tila beads and seed beads converging at a single intersection.

stepbystep Tila bead tracks [1] On 1 yd. (.9 m) of Fireline, pick up an 110 seed bead and a Tila bead, leaving a 6-in. (15 cm) tail. Sew through the second hole of the Tila bead, and pick up an 110. Sew through the first 110 and the first hole of the Tila bead again (figure 1, a–b). [2] Pick up a repeating pattern of a 150 seed bead and a Tila bead six times for a total of seven Tila beads in the row (b–c).

[3] Pick up two 110s, and sew through the second hole of the last Tila bead added in the previous step (c–d). Sew through the first hole of the same Tila bead, the two 110s added at the start of this step, and the second hole of the same Tila bead (d–e) so your needle is pointing toward the tail. [4] Pick up an 110, and sew through the second hole of the next Tila bead (e–f). Repeat this step to the end of the row, and sew through the end 110 (f–g).

[5] To begin the second row, pick up an 110 and a Tila bead. Sew through the nearest hole of the adjacent Tila bead in the previous row and the two end 110s, then sew through the same hole of the new Tila bead (figure 2, a–b). [6] Pick up two 150s and a Tila bead. Sew through the nearest hole of the adjacent Tila bead in the previous row and the same hole of the new Tila bead (b–c). Repeat this step five times (c–d). [7] Pick up an 110, and sew through the adjacent 110 and the Tila bead in the previous row, then sew through the same hole of the Tila bead and the 110 just added (d–e). [8] Pick up an 110, and sew through the second hole of the last Tila bead added (e–f). [9] Pick up two 110s, and sew through the second hole of the next Tila bead.

Repeat this step to the end of the row, and pick up an 110 (f–g). [10] Work the third row as in steps 5–8, but in step 6 pick up three 150s between the Tila beads instead of two (figure 3, a–b). [11] Pick up an 110, a 150, and an 110, and sew through the second hole of the next Tila bead. Repeat this stitch to the end of the row (b–c). Pick up an 110, and sew through the adjacent 110 and the 110 just picked up (c–d). Retrace the thread path through the last two 110s, and end the working thread (Online Basics) but not the tail. [12] Repeat steps 1–11 to create a second track, but use 11⁄2 yd. (1.4 m) of Fireline instead of 1 yd. (.9 m), and don’t end the working thread or tail.

Assembly [1] Position the tracks as shown in figure 4 so the tails are at opposite ends. Using the working thread from the second track, sew through the beadwork to exit the second-to-last Tila bead in row 3 (point a). Sew through the corresponding Tila bead in the other track, and retrace the thread path, exiting the Tila bead in the other track (a–b). [2] Sew through the next 110, 150, and 110 (b–c), then sew through the corresponding 110, 150, and 110 on the other track; the next Tila bead;

and the following 110, 150, and 110 (c–d). Sew through the corresponding 110, 150, and 110 on the first track (d–e). Retrace the thread path of the joins, and end the working thread. [3] With one of the tails, pick up a Tila bead and two 110s, and sew through the second hole of the Tila bead just added (figure 5, a–b). Pick up a 150, and sew through the end 110 and the last Tila bead in row 3 (b–c). Sew back through the other hole of the same Tila bead and the next 110, the following Tila bead, and the next 110 (c–d).

[4] Pick up a Tila bead and two 110s. Sew back through the second hole of the Tila bead just added, the next 110, and the following Tila bead. Sew through the other hole of the same Tila bead and the next 110, Tila bead, and 110 (d–e). Repeat this step two more times or to the desired length, but in the last repeat, pick up half of the clasp between the two end 110s. Retrace the thread path several times, and end the thread. [5] Repeat steps 1–4 on the other end of the bracelet. w
