This course will prepare students for Math 170 and other courses which have both college algebra and trigonometry as pre-requisites. Policies and Procedures: 1. Attendance is vital for a student to be successful in this course! The student may be dropped after four or more unexcused absences. It is your responsibility to drop, do not expect me to drop you. 2. It is essential for you to do every homework assignment because practice is the only way to develop and improve math skills. Homework will be assigned each day for the sections covered and will be due the next class meeting. You must show your work on all problems or credit cannot be given. Please be sure to include your name and the assignment section on your paper. Answers to the odd numbered problems are in the back of the book, make sure you check them. Homework will be totaled and counted as one test score of 100 points. 3. Read the book!! For best results, read the new sections before coming to class so the lecture and examples will make more sense to you. 4. A student will be subject to a failing grade (0 credits) of caught cheating on any test or copying another student’s assignment.

5. A missed test will be recorded as a zero unless you make arrangements with me prior to the scheduled test time (or before our next class at the very latest). Outcome Assessment: Students will be asked to complete a student evaluation at the end of the semester. Also, regular informal feedback will be solicited in an effort to improve the class as we go along. Please feel free to contact me with any suggestions or concerns. Daily assignments, chapter tests, and a comprehensive final exam will be used to assess how well students achieve the course objectives. Grading Practices:

If at any time during the semester you are struggling, please feel free to email me, talk to me after class, or call me; I am here to help you. Homework: Homework is due in class, the Friday after it is assigned. The sections we cover the first week of class will be due the next Friday (Sept 1). This gives you a full week to complete each assignment and still ask questions. I ask that each section be done on separate sheets of paper. Do not staple multiple sections together. Exams: Exams are scheduled as is on the schedule that is attached to the syllabus. They will not change. I need to know ahead of time if you will not be able to take the exam on that day. If you need to take a makeup exam, it must be taken during the following week in which it was scheduled. You will need to contact Carlos Luna, the CSI administrator on site at Micron, to schedule a time. He only gives exams on certain days and times so, DO NOT wait until the last minute to schedule it. If your exam is not taken by the Friday that follows the exam, it will be a zero. Remember that you get to drop one test score. If you miss a test, that will be the one that I drop. The final exam will be on Wednesday, December 13 from 1pm to 3pm. There will be no makeup on the final. You must be there on this day and time to take it. On-line evaluation statement: Students are strongly encouraged to complete evaluations at the end of the course. Evaluations are very important to assist the teaching staff to continually improve the course. Evaluations are available online at: http://evaluation.csi.edu. Evaluations open up two weeks prior to the end of the course. The last day to complete an evaluation is the

last day of the course. During the time the evaluations are open, students can complete the course evaluations at their convenience from any computer with internet access. When students log in they should see the evaluations for the courses in which they are enrolled. Evaluations are anonymous. Filling out the evaluation should only take a few minutes. Your honest feedback is greatly appreciated!
