A student is told by her teacher that “you can think of almost everything as a math problem.” This nearly drives the student crazy as she does begin to turn every daily situation into a math problem inside her head. These problems include capacity conversions, charts and graphs, number sequences, fractions, and others. These math problems continue to mount until the student begins to solve them. The answers to the problems are found on the back cover. Ideas/Extensions: After reading Math Curse, separate students into groups of 3-4 and pass out a newspaper to each group. Ask students to look for math problems in the stories. Each group will select one problem and create a poster than presents the problem. They may clip the newspaper story or illustrate and write out the story with the problem. Separate students into pairs and ask them to think of everyday situations that they have encountered that are like a math problem. Allow time for them to write down their story problem and then trade with another group

for solving.
