Part 1 Part 1 takes the young pianist step-by-step through the earliest stages of piano technique, first with separate hands, then with a sequence of very easy pieces for hands together. All use a constant five finger hand position in the key of C major. Games and puzzles give elementary theory a new lease of life, and children will love the rhymes and songs introducing characters such as the Ostrich, Sammy Squirrel and the Old Man with a Beard!

Part 2 Now published in full colour for the first time! Part 2 builds on the foundations laid in Part 1 by extending the compass of notes learnt, and by introducing new rhythms, note values, chords and changes of hand position. As well as lively solo pieces, a sequence of delightful duets offers pupil and teacher an opportunity to make music together. Children will love the Monkey Puzzles pages, together with the rhymes and songs introducing characters such as the Grasshopper and the Elephant!

Repertoire This delightful book of first repertoire pieces builds on the solid technical and musical foundations established in Parts 1 and 2, which it is designed to complement. This wealth of new material ranges from simple five finger pieces for separate hands to more advanced pieces introducing changes of hand position, new notes and rhythms, simple chords, and the key signatures of G and F major. An essential book which encourages young pianists to expand their repertoire in the most enjoyable way.

Duets Book 1 This first book of easy, attractive duets for the young beginner is specially designed to complement the progression of Parts 1 and 2. Some of the 20 pieces in this collection have interchangeable parts of equal difficulty, so that the young pianist can play alongside a teacher, parent or another pupil, whilst others are intended for pupil/teacher performance. A lively and stimulating mixture of new and familiar material, drawn from many different countries, this book will prove irresistible to teachers and pupils alike.

Fanny Waterman Dame Fanny Waterman is a living legend in the world of music, a teacher of international renown, a respected clinician and adjudicator, and author of over 30 piano teaching books. Her Me and My Piano and Piano Lessons tutors, co-written with colleague Marion Harewood, are widely used by beginners worldwide. Dame Fanny Waterman is one of the most outstanding and sought-after piano teachers of our time. Her extraordinary success stems from her concentration on security of technique placed at the disposal of imagination and musicianship. One of her secrets has been to convey to her pupils a sense of excitement by working through their imaginative abilities right from the start. Dame Fanny is also the joint founder, with Marion Harewood, of the Leeds International Competition and her growing list of prize-winning pupils has brought her international renown. Awarded the OBE in 1971 and the CBE in 1999, Fanny Waterman was made a Dame in the 2005 New Year’s Honours list in recognition of a lifetime of service to music.

Duets Book 2 This second book of easy, attractive duets for the young beginner. Some of the 16 pieces in this collection have interchangeable parts of equal difficulty, so that the young pianist can play alongside a teacher, parent or another pupil, whilst others are intended for pupil/teacher performance.

Superscales Superscales is a refreshingly different introduction to piano scales. Designed to complement Part 2, it will be invaluable for any young beginner. There are simple ‘under thumb’ and ‘hand over’ exercises to establish fingering patterns, and the scales themselves are brought to life with 16 imaginative scaley pieces, complete with teacher accompaniments. Numerous ‘musical detective’ quizzes will keep all pupils on their toes! This friendly yet methodical approach will ensure a rapid, musical grasp of scales in a most enjoyable way.

Animal Magic These essential daily exercises for the young pianist are based on the classic studies of Czerny, Hanon, Philipp and Doynanyi, which play such a major role in the development of good piano technique. The technical points in Animal Magic (ranging from simple finger-strengthening exercises to various ‘special effects’) are imaginatively related to the characteristics of various animals, birds and insects. This book will transform dull practice routines into lively daily sessions!

On Piano Teaching & Performing (New Edition) A fascinating insight into Dame Fanny Waterman’s teaching approach and the fundamentals of playing technique and musicianship. This book distills the knowledge and experience of a legendary teaching career that spans over 65 years. Originally published in 1983, this new edition has been updated to reflect Dame Fanny’s more recent experiences with extra material including a chapter on international competitions. Inspiring thoughts and advice not just for pianists but for all musicians. “As a sure guide to every aspect of teaching and performing, this book is a gem” Dame Janet Baker CH DBE

“Compulsory reading for every practising musician and teacher” Link Magazine
