Laboratory of Ion Beam Physics, ETH Zurich, Switzerland Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) is mostly used to determine 14C/12C ratios for radiocarbon dating, because it allows determining efficiently 14C without isobaric or molecular background of relatively small samples. While for many years these measurements were performed on large tandem accelerators at energies of 3 – 6 MV, this has changed over the last 15 years.
