MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY GEOGRAPHY CLUB CONSTITUTION ARTICLE I: NAME and PURPOSE Section 1: The name of this organization shall be the Michigan State University Geography Club. Section 2: The purpose of this organization shall be to provide social, learning, and service opportunities for its members, allowing them to interact and create connections with other geographers. This organization will also work to spark geography awareness to those outside of geography. ARTICLE II: MEMBERSHIP Section 1: The Michigan State University Geography Club is open to all MSU students interested in Geography. The Michigan State University Geography Club does not discriminate on the basis of age, color, gender, disability, status, height, marital status, national origin, political persuasion, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, weight, or geographic literacy. Only MSU students may be officers and/or voting members. Section 2: Annual dues shall be proposed by the officers and brought to a vote of the membership early in the fall semester. Dues are put into the general funds account and are used to provide activities throughout the year for the club members. In order for an official member to remain in good standing, the member must follow the rules and regulations/goals as laid out by this constitution. Members must also attend meetings and functions with regularity. ARTICLE III: OFFICERS Section 1: The Michigan State University Geography Club shall have a minimum of four (4) officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Other officers may be created at any time by vote of the membership. Section 2: Each officer will serve a term of one (1) year or less. The term will begin at election time and continue until the start of the following fall semester. If, for any reason, an officer cannot fulfill his duties for the full term, the remaining officers will propose a course of action and put it to a vote by the general members. Section 3: The duties of each officer are as follows. (Numbers indicate order of presidential succession) 1. President – The President shall convene and preside at all meetings, create the agenda for all meetings, and retain regular contact with the faculty advisor. The president will also keep an updated list of all dues‐paying members.

ARTICLE III, Section 3 (continued): 2. Vice President – The vice president shall assist the president, when necessary, and if the president is absent from a meeting or event, shall take over the president’s responsibilities for that meeting or event. The VP will also lead implementation of membership recruitment and fundraising activities. 3. Public Relations – The PR officer will lead the organization of club events, both social and professional. 4. Secretary – The secretary shall take notes at every meeting and submit them for publication on the web page. 5. Treasurer – The treasurer shall collect dues and be in charge of all receipts and balances for the organization bank account. All officers – All officers shall participate on a regular basis in club functions (including but not limited to meetings, social events, and community service events). Section 4: Any officer failing to maintain membership in good standing may be removed at any meeting by vote of the general membership. ARTICLE IV: OPERATING PROCEDURES Section 1: The Michigan State University Geography Club shall hold meetings at a time, place, and frequency decided by the members at the beginning of every semester. Section 2: The rules of order to be followed at each meeting shall be those laid out by the president, with the Robert’s Rules of Order to be applied when there is a disagreement on procedures. ARTICLE V: AMENDMENTS Section 1: Any official member of the organization may propose amendments. Section 2: To be considered for adoption, any proposed amendment must be brought before an organizational meeting and discussed as necessary. It must also be emailed to the membership before a vote is taken. Section 3: Amendments must be approved with a majority (more than half) vote of all official members casting a vote. Ballots may be sent by email, provided there is provision for anonymous return.
