The Internet of Things (IoT T) can be defined as the intercon nnection of uniquely iddentifiable embeddeed computingg devices wiithin the exissting Interneet infrastructture. Typically, IoT is exxpected to offer advvanced connnectivity of devices, d systtems, and seervices that goes g beyondd machine-too-machine communnications (M M2M) and covers c a variety v of protocols, p domains, d an nd applicatioons. The interconnnection of these embeddeed devices (inncluding sm mart objects) is i expected to t usher in auutomation covering all major engineering fields, f while also enablinng advanced d applications such as Sm mart Grid and Smarrt Surveillannce. MPEG hhas already started s to invvestigate on standardizattion activitiees to define network prootocols for the Interrnet of Thing gs (e.g., how w to connecct things). Thhe variety and a heterogeeneity of "Thhings" ma ke difficcult to stand dardize descrriptions, data formats, APIs A in a gllobal manneer, however, when the environm ment is well established,, this can bee done. Therrefore, MPE EG is exploriing represenntations of multimeddia things as part of coomplex distrributed systeems implyinng interactionn between tthings and between humans andd things. Thee multimediaa data type eelements aree correspond ding to descrriptions of devices aand messagees for “talkinng to” and “adapting too” either dev vices

orr services inn the Inter

net of Thhings. The Mu ultimedia-ceentric Intern net of Thinggs (mm-IoT T) is the colleection of inteerfaces, protocols and associateed multimed dia-related information representattions that enable adv vanced servvices and applicatioons based on o human too device annd device too device intteraction in physical annd virtual environm ments. Inform mation referss to data senssed and proccessed by a device, d and/o or communiccated to a human orr another dev vice.

Topics m based IoT services andd system Submittted papers may focus on originall work in multimedia-b architectuure construcctions, the distributed d neetwork of auudio-video caameras systeems, multim media data optimizaation and complexity-a c aware algorrithm designns, camera network implementati i ions and

management, low-power design, and security algorithms. Both theoretical and technical papers are welcome. Original contributions showing practical approaches are also welcome. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
