CHIEF EXECUTIVE, MOTORSPORT VISION the American SpeedFest in June will be headlined by the Euro NASCAR series where the whole circuit will be turned into a scene from Daytona.

Incredibly this is our tenth season of events at MSV and it’s hard to believe those years have passed so quickly! All of our circuits have evolved following heavy investment from MSV since 2004 and the most recent improvements are the addition of bridges at Oulton Park and Cadwell Park over the winter months to improve spectator access. It’s also the 60th year of Oulton Park in 2013, which will be celebrated at the annual Gold Cup weekend in August, and another important anniversary will be marked at Brands Hatch in July, with Aston Martin commemorating a remarkable centenary. We’ll also be holding festivals celebrating Mini and Lotus at Brands Hatch, whilst

The MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship just gets better every year and I really can’t wait for this season to get underway, with triple champions Shakey Byrne and Ryuichi Kiyonari going head-tohead in ‘the war for four’ titles! MSV will also be hosting key rounds of the British Touring Car Championship this year, and the return of 2009 champion Colin Turkington has added extra spice to the season already. Touring Car fans can also look forward to the DTM at Brands Hatch in May, the series’ only UK round. Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are equally matched and with a host of racing celebrities in attendance, Brands Hatch becomes the centre of the motorsport world for this great event. British GT also looks set for a superb season with the promise of huge grids of supercars, whilst at

the other end of the scale the British Truck Racing Championship is sure to be as spectacular as ever. Meanwhile MSV’s new BRDC Formula 4 Championship will provide superb racing as young drivers set out to prove themselves on their way to F1. Of course there are also many excellent club racing events taking place almost every weekend from March until November, plus an outstanding programme of historic action. Tyco Suzuki’s Josh Brookes has come tantalisingly close to the title the past few years and won’t want to settle for second again!

Honda’s Gordon Shedden finally added his name to an illustrious list of champions in 2012, fending off team mate and triple-champion Matt Neal and double title-winner Jason Plato, who stunned with his pace in the brand new MG6. Arch-rivals Plato and Neal continued their on track fireworks in 2012,

Access to the drivers and teams is another reason for the BTCC’s success, with free pit walks at every round. The BTCC also boasts an exciting support package from the Renault Clio Cup, Porsche Carrera Cup, Ginetta Supercup and Juniors, and the Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain.

These expensively prepared cars may start the weekend in showroom condition, but they don’t stay that way for long. With some of the closest racing in any championship, contact is inevitable, and the series is renowned for its door-to-door action.

SNETTERTON

2009 champion Colin Turkington also makes a welcome return to the series with West Surrey Racing after a three year absence.

Now into the third year of the ‘Next Generation Touring Car’ rules package, the new cars should be faster this season with greatly increased turbo outputs, which should add to the spice.

BRANDS HATCH, 17–19 MAY

DTM is the pinnacle of Touring Car racing, with 470bhp fire-spitting machines from Germany’s big three manufacturers: Audi, BMW and MercedesBenz. The stunning coupés lap the Indy circuit in little more than 40 seconds, and the drivers must also complete breathtakingly fast pitstops!

Three days of fantastic action makes this one of the undoubted highlights of the racing calendar. Support race highlights include the FIA European F3 Championship and the new BRDC Formula 4 Championship.

OULTON PARK

A truly international field features current champion Bruno Spengler from Canada, former title-holders Mattias Ekstrom of Sweden, plus Timo Scheider and Martin Tomczyk from Germany. F1 star Timo Glock has also joined and is expected to make a big impression.

All eyes will be on Britain’s Gary Paffett this May, as the 2005 champion aims to add a second title after missing out by a single point last season. The Bromley-born McLaren test driver dominated the 2012 round at Brands Hatch, and F1 team mate Jenson Button presented him with the trophy.

CADWELL PARK

In addition to Paffett, British hopes also lie with Jamie Green, who has switched from Mercedes-Benz to Audi, whilst BMW’s line-up includes multiple World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx.

Trucks will grace the Brands Hatch Indy circuit twice in 2013, with visits in April and for the season finale in November, while also returning to Snetterton after a successful debut on the 300 circuit in 2012. The November round will feature a spectacular fireworks display following the action on track, which, let’s face it, is also likely to be spark-tacular!

CADWELL PARK

The five tonne monsters of the Delphi British Truck Racing Association race just as hard as contenders in the British Touring Car Championship, and aren’t afraid to risk a bit of body contact as they go sideby-side into the corners. Don’t be fooled by their size either: racing trucks are capable of accelerating to 100mph in under five seconds thanks to huge 1,000 horsepower, 12-litre engines!

The British GT Championship kicks off at Oulton Park over the Easter weekend, with visits to Snetterton 300 in June, and the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in August.

There will be great single seater action at each of the meetings too, with the F3 Cup supporting at Oulton Park and the brand new Formula 4 Championship on the bill at Snetterton. Meanwhile the British F3 International Series appears at Brands Hatch on the Grand Prix circuit.

CADWELL PARK

The 2012 season was one of the most competitive in history, with just a few points separating the top runners, and almost every round won by a different crew. Brands Hatch saw the championship’s closest result, with a photo finish between the top two after two hours of racing.

These sensational cars can be seen driven to their limits, just as they were designed to do, by a field that contains several familiar faces. Ex-Touring Car stars Tim Harvey, Michael Caine and Warren Hughes competed in the championship last year, and the 2013 grid will include former F1 driver Mark Blundell.

The British GT Championship features a multimillion pound grid, with the planet’s greatest marques lining up. Ferrari and Porsche are strongly represented, whilst the Aston Martin, BMW and McLaren names will be present too.

On track action will be headlined by the superb Euro Racecar NASCAR Touring Series. These NASCAR V8 monsters will provide thrill a minute bumper-tobumper racing akin to the spectacle produced by the world famous Sprint Cup. Spectators will be able to soak up the American spirit with a host of themed activities away from the track too. The American race day atmosphere will be recreated with cheerleaders, rodeo bulls and live music. A barbecue competition will see the best grillers show off their skills and a hot dog eating contest will tantalise the taste buds. Monster Trucks will demonstrate their awesome power and offer fans the chance to get even closer to the action with unique passenger rides.

The venue will be transformed into a scene from Daytona with American derived motorsport providing entertainment on track and an array of US themed activities located around the 1.2 mile circuit to appeal to fans of all ages.

Continuing the supercharged American theme on track will be the Pickup Truck Racing Championship, Legends Cars Cup and iconic Mustangs, Falcons and Corvettes from Bernie’s Historic V8 Racing Association.

Brands Hatch will adopt the Stars and Stripes on Sunday 9 June for a special NASCAR-fuelled festival of motorsport and Americana at the inaugural American SpeedFest.

The Masters Festival has firmly established itself as one of the must-see events on the historic calendar, with an intoxicating cocktail of great racing and stunning demonstrations. Central to this is a celebration of Formula 1 on the Grand Prix circuit - a track that has retained its essential character for more than half a century and has staged some of the sport’s greatest moments. Classic F1 cars will return to the battlefield once again as the venue reverberates to the echo of Cosworth DFV engines, plus more exotic sounds, such as the sonorous Matra V12. Oulton Park held its first meeting in August 1953, so it’s fitting that 60 years on the date should fall in the same month as the Gold Cup, which was inaugurated just one year into the venue’s history. Since then the roll of honour has featured many greats of the sport: Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Jack Brabham, John Surtees, Jim Clark, Denny Hulme and Sir Jackie Stewart are some of the legendary names.

Central to this event is the action on track, with a packed programme of historic racing on a circuit that has never lost its appeal to enthusiastic drivers, guaranteeing large grids in every category. The headline attraction is the Derek Bell Trophy, with powerful F5000 and F2 single seaters a sight to behold as they race around the picturesque venue.

This year the atmosphere will be further enhanced by the venue’s anniversary celebrations, joining other attractions that include track parades and displays. It’s set to be the event of the season!

Owners’ clubs from across the UK and Europe will make the pilgrimage to Brands Hatch to show off their pride and joy and take part in parade laps on circuit. The Lotus Festival is a great chance to see classic F1 cars take to the Grand Prix circuit once again, recalling past glories. Much of Team Lotus’ history was written at Brands Hatch and the cars will be talking the same corners that they conquered during those glory years, courtesy of Classic Team Lotus. The company, run by Colin Chapman’s son Clive, prepares and restores the cars, and many of the original mechanics still work on them.

Central to the event will be two days of racing action, which will start on the Indy circuit before moving onto the Grand Prix loop on the Sunday. Aston Club Racing has invited all of its championships and series to take part, with two special Centenary races headlining the competitive action, splitting the cars into pre and post 1963 categories. Since its inception in March 2006, MSVR has become one of the leading race event organising clubs in the country and is set for its busiest year to date in 2013. MSVR has successfully organised a wide spectrum of events from club level racing to prestigious international meetings, including DTM at Brands Hatch. This year with 22 championships/series under its wing, MSVR boasts a bumper 37 event calendar from March until November, with events at all the UK’s premier tracks, including MSV’s four circuits. Joining MSVR’s ever expanding portfolio this year is the groundbreaking new BRDC Formula 4 Championship which aims to launch the careers of

some of the brightest young talents in motor racing. The Radical SR1 Cup is another new championship for 2013, catering for novice and first time racers. The championship, which will welcome Olympic legend Sir Chris Hoy into competitive motorsport, is the first step on the ladder to professional sports car racing. Meanwhile the Ariel Atom will make its motorsport debut this year with the launch of the Atom Cup series, as the popular car transforms itself from a trackday beast to a pure racer. All 24 cars were sold within a month of going on sale to 14 teams and privateers, from established international outfits such as Comtec Racing to ‘dads and lads’ entries. Drivers compete for an outstanding prize package including £25,000 for the winner and a test with multi title-winning F3 team Carlin. Making its debut in 2013, the season is contested over 24 races across eight weekends, with five at MSV circuits including a prestigious DTM support slot at Brands Hatch in May and British GT at Snetterton in June.

Created by MotorSport Vision (MSV) and supported by the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC), the championship uses highly sophisticated cars built to a single specification by RFR, the company headed by Ralph Firman who founded the legendary Van Diemen operation.

Duratec engine, developing 185bhp using a Cosworth engine management system, and linked to a six-speed Sadev paddleshift gearbox. The F4 cars also feature front and rear wings and run on slick and wet tyres supplied by leading manufacturer Yokohama.

THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF OULTON PARK CIRCUIT

Oulton Park’s international stature was built upon the Gold Cup meeting, which was first held in 1954. Originally a non-championship Formula One race, the roll-call of winners confirms the circuit’s reputation: Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Jack Brabham, John Surtees, Jim Clark, Denny Hulme and Sir Jackie Stewart are just some of the famous names. The circuit will look better than ever in 2013, with the return of the famous start line bridge. There are meetings almost every Saturday at the venue, starting with the popular Masters Historic Festival in March, and Oulton Park will also host Chris Evans’ Carfest North event in August for the first time.

Oulton Park also hosts some of the UK’s biggest championships. The MCE British Superbike Championship will pay two visits to Cheshire, whilst the British Touring Car Championship’s June visit traditionally draws one of the series’ biggest crowds. Just a few weeks earlier there’s a comparable atmosphere for the Easter round of the British GT Championship.

CADWELL PARK

Oulton Park celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2013. The circuit was first used by the Mid-Cheshire Car Club in August 1953, after the grounds of Oulton Hall were used as an army staging camp in World War II, and as a base for General Patton during the run-up to the Normandy D-Day landings.

The Gold Cup remains an annual fixture but is now run as a major historic event and this year will form the centrepiece of the circuit’s birthday celebrations.

The changes have had a marked impact on attendances, which have increased markedly for both the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship and British Touring Car Championship rounds. Both series will return in 2013. Full ticket pricing details can be found on pages 100-103


BSB shines in the July Norfolk sunshine

The British GT Championship, supported by the new BRDC Formula 4 series, will also pay a visit to the track, moving to an earlier slot of June, two weeks after fans of older sportscars have enjoyed the HSCC’s Autosport 3 hour meeting. Long distance racing’s link with the circuit also continues with the 360 Motor Racing Club’s 6 hour race, BRSCC 12 hours and the annual 24 hour race for Citroen 2CVs, plus a full schedule of club racing.

CADWELL PARK

The new circuit was designed by MSV Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer, and called upon his considerable experience in racing from club level through to the pinnacle of the sport. The new mile-long infield section has a stadium atmosphere at headline events, surrounded by grass banks that offer panoramic views of the whole track.

As a result of its redevelopment, Snetterton’s stature in UK motorsport has grown and several new events were added to the calendar in 2012, all of which will return this season. The British Superkart Grand Prix will be held once again in July, whilst the British Truck Racing Championship round will be held over the August Bank Holiday weekend. A month later the Snetterton Vintage Festival is back after a hugely popular inaugural running.

Following a major redevelopment in 2011, Snetterton has re-established itself as one of the country’s best circuits. The new layout has provided an increased challenge for drivers and riders and transformed viewing for spectators.

THE MOST CHARISMATIC CIRCUIT IN BRITAIN

For motorcycle fans Cadwell Park is the place to be over the August Bank Holiday weekend, as the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship makes its annual visit. Thousands line the circuit to watch the riders fight for the final places in the title Showdown, as the venue is overcome by a party atmosphere. Cadwell Park also has an enthusiastic following from the 4-wheel crowd. There are two magical events recalling the golden days of motorsport, with the Wolds Trophy meeting bringing post-war single seaters, saloons and sportscars to the circuit in the spring. Later on a Vintage Festival turns the clock further back to the pioneering age. There are club meetings too, with MSVR one of several heading to Lincolnshire in 2013, and access around the circuit will be better than ever with a new spectator bridge.

The British Motorcycle Racing Club, Classic Racing Motorcycle Club, Derby Phoenix, Auto 66, NG Road Racing and Hottrax will all be holding meetings here. Almost any car or bike is eligible to take part, giving you the opportunity to drive or ride your own vehicle at some of the most spectacular circuits in the UK including Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Cadwell Park, Snetterton and Bedford Autodrome. Friends and family are welcome free of charge at most events and passengers and additional drivers or riders can even try their hand with your car or bike – if you trust them!

With 20 minute Taster Sessions, Novice Only events, Road Car Only days and General Trackdays for the more advanced – there is nothing to stop you experiencing your car like never before.

Motorbikes are getting faster and faster. Now, the only way to experience what they’re really capable of is on a bike trackday. Don’t worry if you’re not a MotoGP rider – we have events to suit all levels of riding ability. Still not convinced?
