APPROVAL OF AGENDA Joan LaRue moved that the agenda be approved as presented. Sandy Froemming seconded the motion. Motion passed. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – September 29, 2003 Lucille Holderman moved that the minutes be approved as presented. Joan LaRue seconded the motion. Motion passed. SCHOOL REPORTS Chanute: Ottawa:

Student Ages/Hometowns/Counties of Residence A handout was distributed showing the average age, hometowns and counties of residence of nursing students for spring 2004. The average age for the student nurse on both campuses for spring of ‘03‘04 is 31.18, compared to 31.61 for fall of ‘03-‘04. On the Chanute campus students come from 30 different cities and 16 different counties. The towns with the largest student numbers are Chanute with 16 and Fredonia with 8. The counties with the largest student numbers are Neosho with 17, and Montgomery and Wilson each with 11. On the Ottawa campus students come from 27 different cities and 11 different counties. The towns with the largest student numbers are Lawrence with 20 and Ottawa with 18. The counties with the largest student numbers are Franklin with 31 and Douglas with 23.



Updated Admissions, Retention, Graduates, and State Board Passage Rates Updated lists were presented. Chanute’s state board passage rate for the ‘02-‘03 school year for LPNs was 100%; for the ‘02-‘03 school year for RNs is 100% to date (two have not taken). Ottawa’s

state board passage rate for the ‘02 school year for LPNs was 97% (one failed) (have not received results of the ‘03 testers); RNs 93% (two failed) (have not received results of the ‘03 testers).

Clinical Facilities List An updated clinical facilities list was distributed for review. The following modification was made: - Heritage Health Care Center – Chris Swiger is no longer DON, do not know her replacement. - Mid-America Rehabilitation Hospital – Allyson Young is no longer DON, do not know her replacement.



NCLEX-RN Summary Profiles for Ottawa (May 2003 Graduates) No report was available.



Graduates’ Follow-Up Questionnaires/Employer Surveys/Patterns of Employment A handout was distributed showing summaries of the Chanute Graduate Follow-Up Information, Vocational Follow-Up Information, and Employer Follow-Up Information. Three responses were received to the Graduate Follow-Up Information. One student stated that she felt she was adequately prepared for her nursing role, two had no response. Five responses were received to the Vocational Follow-Up Information. All five stated they were working full-time in their field of vocational training. Two were “Very Satisfied” with their job and three “Satisfied.” All five stated that their vocational training was “Very Good” in helping them with their current position. Four are “Very Satisfied” with their vocation training and one “Satisfied.” Four responses were received to the Employer Follow-Up Information. Two felt that the vocational training his/her employee received was “Very Good” and two “Good.” Three responded that the graduates foster high standards of nursing care, and one stated that the student “tries hard to be a good nurse.” Eight responses were received from the 1, 2 and 5-year Graduate Follow-Up Information from the Ottawa campus (see handout).



Chanute Campus Graduate Recruitment/Open House March 17 Karen announced that we would be having our annual graduate recruitment/open house on the Chanute campus Wednesday, March 17.



Facilities’ Concerns Allen County Hospital - New charting system coming to Allen County Hospital beginning April 2005. - Concerns about students not having enough orientation for surgery department.



Clinical Documentation Not sure students are reading before checking off, need to document more and not simply check off.
