Nuts for T-slots

508 Supersedes January 1997 edition.

ICS 21.060.20 Muttern für T-Nuten

In keeping with current practice in standards published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), a comma has been used throughout as the decimal marker.

Foreword This standard has been prepared by the Normenausschuss Werkzeuge und Spannzeuge (Tools and Clamping Devices Standards Committee), Technical Committee Bohrbuchsen, Spannzeuge und Vorrichtungen. Amendments This standard differs from the January 1997 edition in that marking details have been changed and the standard has been editorially revised. Previous editions DIN 508: 1924-01, 1928-01, 1956-05, 1969-10, 1977-06, 1979-02, 1991-04, 1997-01.

Introduction This standard conforms in substance to International Standard ISO 299 : 1987. In conjunction with DIN 6379 studs, nuts for T-slots form clamping elements similar in function to the T-head bolts specified in DIN 787. DIN 267-4 (withdrawn), upon which the April 1991 edition of this standard was based, was superseded by DIN EN 20898-2. However, neither the property classes specified in the latter standard nor the hardness classes specified in DIN 267-24 apply because the T-nuts specified here are not compatible with conventional nuts. Instead, T-nuts as specified in this standard shall be subjected to tensile testing using the proof loads specified in table 1 (cf. figure 2). To utilize the bearing capacity of T-nuts, full-length engagement of the stud is essential. It should be noted that, when determining the bearing capacity of the assembly, allowance must be made for the reduced wall thickness of the shank.
