Annual Congregational Retreat The annual congregational retreat at Camp WaMaVa is two weeks away (November 1-3). This is a great weekend of fellowship, Bible study, outdoor activities, singing, playing games, and eating. Camp WaMaVa is located in Front Royal Virginia. It is approximately 2 hours away depending on traffic. Everyone is invited to spend the entire weekend with us, but if you can only make it for part of the weekend please do so. The cabins have air conditioning and heat, bunk beds, showers, etc. This weekend will bring you closer to your Laurel family and give you an opportunity to get to know one other better. A sign up sheet is on the bulletin board. Please sign up no later than next Sunday so we can plan for the weekend. Please see Myron or Renee Harper if you have any questions or for directions (or click here on the online version of this bulletin). For those who will not be at WaMaVa that Sunday (November 3), please remember that we will have classes here at 9:30 am and only one worship service that Sunday at 10:30 am. There will be no 8 am service, no Life Groups and no evening service that day.

Your Photos and Our Website Our Internet Outreach Team is working on a new church website that should be ready within the next few months. One of the improvements over the current website will be the use of photos with people from our congregation rather than stock photos.

Secretary: Susan Ray [email protected] 410-608-1177

Because we know that some of you do not wish to have pictures of yourselves and your family on the internet (whether for personal reasons or because of concerns related to your work), we would like for you to let us know if that is the case for you.

If you do not want to appear in any photos on publicly accessible pages of the new website, please send an email to Kevin Caldwell at [email protected]. In the email, please list your name and the names of all family members (spouse, minor children) to whom your request applies. We will be diligent to honor your request when selecting photos to use on the website.

20, 19, 18, 17 . . .3,2,1. That’s all it takes --20 seconds of courage. When we look at monumental moS-66 Come Let Us Sing ments in life, could they S-27 Shout to the Lord not all be boiled down to 20 seconds? The greatest Call to Worship: Stew Highberg baseball play you have ever seen is shorter than — My Only Hope is You 20 seconds. The most spectacular dunk — Come to the Table of the basketball season could be replayed five times in 20 seconds. A job Bread: Mike Hewlett could be won or lost within the first 20 Fruit of the Vine: Chuck Morris seconds of the interview. Giving: Micah Copeland What really made me think of 20 Assistant: Jeff Dockendorf seconds of courage is the movie “We Assistant 1: Jason Kane Bought a Zoo.” In this movie Matt Assistant 2: Bob Ozomah Damon, as Benjamin Mee, notices that Assistant 3: Alex Driscoll his 13-year-old son has a crush on a girl Assistant 4: David Reimers he has gotten to know. However, his son is too scared to make a move and say 484 You are My All in All something to the girl. While sitting down and talking to his son, Damon Scripture Reading: Phil. 4:4-7 Byron Vaughn makes a statement I will never forget, “. . .it only takes 20 seconds of courage.” Sermon: Michael Ray His point was if his son could muster the courage to talk to his “crush” for 20 — Blessed Be Your Name seconds, it could potentially change his life. Could 20 seconds really change a Prayer Requests/Announcements life? I think about the time it took Jesus — How Great is Our God to tell his apostles, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Closing Prayer: Greg Campbell me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name Our songs today are from Songs of of the Father and of the Son and of the Faith and Praise, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey Supplement. everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matt. 28:18-20). I know Others Serving this morning: this took less than 20 seconds and in this time Jesus started something that Ushers: (1) Tony Dyer, would change the history of the world! (2) Edward Tatum So, here is my challenge for the day; give God 20 seconds of outrageous courage!
