The Greatest Show on Earth Finally a great day for a show – and it was the day for which our show was scheduled – so what if it was the rain date!! The weather people were pessimistic but they were wrong – the rain held off until well after the show was over. It is my opinion they should never forecast further than one day.

Everyone started rolling in a little after 8:00. The show got off to a slow start (I think in part due to the forecasts) but people soon noticed that the sky was blue, the sun was out and there were no clouds in evidence. The pace picked up soon and

before long there was a steady stream of Oldsmobiles driving up to Karen Santucci and Chuck Schiel at the registration table to pick up their goodie bags and entry forms. Next they were parked by class and proceeded to ready their cars for judging.

The Elks were well prepared with coffee, muffins and breakfast sandwiches so that everyone had the nourishment to get them ready for the grueling task of sitting in the sun and communicating with other Oldsmobile owners. DJ Al Brewer played period music from his trailer in the corner and

made pertinent announcements throughout the day.

A thermos set donated by George and Betty Ann Berejik and gift certificates from Fusick Automotive and The Parts Place sparked some vigorous bidding in the auction and helped add to the GMO coffers.

George Berejik conducted a crash course in show car judging and the expert judging staff proceeded to evaluate the cars in the field and place a green sticker on the headlights. The show field started to empty right around 2:00 PM and by 2:30 was virtually empty except for Charlie Iantosca and his convertible which stalled at the entrance. Fortunately Dave Richter and Mike Babij were on hand to help him out. All the Dust-Off winners are listed later in the newsletter. Elm Bank Features Oldsmobile By noon, all the judging sheets were passed in and the tallying began. Awards were made in the 16 classes starting a little after 1:00 PM – pretty close to schedule with Best of Show going to Al Maurer and his 1947 Woodie. Bob Porter won the Super Wheels Pick and the George Berejik Award with his 1966 Starfire convertible. A Plaque was presented to the Elks for hosting the show and the Doug Stavros award was presented to Peter Agris for all the energy and effort he puts in to help the club.

June 28 will mark the 7th Annual car show at the Elm Bank Estate but this year it will be a little different – Oldsmobile will be the featured marque and will have a special prominent parking section in front of the mansion. This is a beautiful venue with gardens and fields – a perfect place for a car show with parking on the grass. Charlie Harris of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society is running the show and several GMO members, Pete Agris, Bob Gobiel, Ted Loranz, and Steve Howard are on the show committee. The Oldsmobile section has 10 awards and a special deal which allowed pre-registration for only $7.00. It is too late to pre-register but you can still come to the show and register at the gate. Where else can you get a days worth of fun for $15.00? Food & Music will be available but it is a perfect place to bring the family and have a picnic. We have promised 50+ Oldsmobiles will attend the show and have 41 signed up to date. We need your help, so come join us at this spectacular event.

The Oldsmobile Club of America’s national meet is July 15th to July 19th and is hosted by the Allegheny Rockets chapter of the OCA. The meet will take place at the Seven Spring Resort, in Seven Springs, PA. The resort is a wonderful mountain top venue with many restaurants and activities. The GMO will be well represented this year. In attendance for our club this year will be; • President, David Consoli • Vice President, Richard Santucci • Secretary / Treasurer, Ted Loranz • Events Coordinator, Chuck Schiel • Club Representive, Everett Horton • Members George Berejik, Frank St. Elmo, and Steve Economou. Most of the above mentioned will be bringing their spouses along. A good time will be had by all. If you are interested in attending the national meet it is not too late. The host hotel as well as the banquet is sold out, but there are may overflow rooms available. If you chose to fly Jet Blue has a non-stop round trip flight for $150.00. Ted Loranz has secured a covered transport truck to Pennsylvania. 4 of the 5 spots on the truck have been filled. If you have any interest in transporting your car to the nationals, please contact Ted via email. [email protected] From the Events Coordinator This is the latest list of the shows that we are supporting this summer: • Sunday, June 28 – Elm Bank Show – Elm Bank Reservation – Wellesley, Massachusetts: Oldsmobile is the featured marque at this show and the GMO has committed to 50 have Oldsmobiles in attendance. This venue is a beautiful place to have a car show. The show field is all on grass, and the gardens and mansion on the property make the perfect backdrop for a car show. This is a super great value at $7.00 per registered car.

• Sunday, July 12 – Endicott Estate – Dedham, Massachusetts: This is a “big one” – the signature show of the mid-summer season. We have an allOldsmobile section and we will have our July club meeting at mid-day on the show grounds. • Sunday, July 19 – Larz Anderson – All American Car Day at the Museum of Transportation – Brookline, Massachusetts: An outstanding location for a car show – on the lawn at the Museum of Transportation! Detail your car and then take a tour of the museum. • Sunday, August 16 – Mass Cruisers Car Show – VFW, Holliston St, Medway, MA – A nice show on grass. Bruce Palmer music & good food. We have attended this show as a club for the last several years. • Saturday, August 29 – All Wheels National on Cape Cod: – Drive down to the Cape for the weekend, and make the Saturday show a part of your getaway weekend. We have our own Oldsmobile section at this show. • Sunday, August 30 – Annual NEOC Oldsmobile Show: Host Hotel – Sturbridge, Massachusetts – this will be a preview of the 2010 OCA national Meet. Come and join our friends in the NEOC and see all the best classic Oldsmobiles from the New England Sunday, September area. • Sunday, September 13 – Ty-Rods Annual Shop – Bolton Fair Grounds - Lancaster, Massachusetts: Another “must attend” show. This show draws over 1000 cars annually. Let’s support Al Maurer by attending this late summer event.

Welcome to the Eastern Massachusetts GMO.

The Perfect Day

Letter From the President

How could you not pick the day of our Oldsmobile show as probably the most perfect day of the year! Everything just seemed to fall into place and the volunteers were no exception. We appreciated all the help received and just want to acknowledge those that stepped up to the plate. Thanks also to those who attended the show. Without you...of course there would be nothing!!!!! Sooooooooo thanks to all who helped out and thanks to you who brought their cars. A special thanks to the Elks and their hospitality and to Al (our DJ) for a fabulous day!!!!!

There is a saying that good things come to those who wait. For all of us who waited the extra two weeks for the dust off we were handsomely rewarded. The weather on May 31st was spectacular. 76 degrees and sunny. We had 102 Oldsmobiles on display for our flagship event. A sure indication that interest in the hobby as well as interest in the GMO is strong.

Rich & Karen Santucci Glimpse of the Month By Shaun Monaghan

For me this event was pure satisfaction. This was my first show as your President. I could not be any prouder than I am to be affiliated with such a great group of people. Our volunteers did a wonderful job assisting show attendees as they arrived. My fellow club officers did a splendid job keeping this event running smoothly. As always our master of ceremonies George Berejik stole the show with his humor. The show was so successful for all involved that at end of the day I was told that the Elks club extended an invitation for next year. After checking the calendar for 2010 we determined that the Dust off would be held on May 16th, 2010 at the Elks. Due to a late Memorial Day weekend next year our rain date will be May 23rd. Please keep these dates in mind. We anticipate a full house next year. Don’t miss out. Although attendance was strong there were some die-hard members that were unable to make the rain date. We missed all of those who were unable to attend. One member in particular was in our thoughts all day. Dave Pelletier had heart surgery on May 19th. Dave is a very active member and he was sorely missed at the dust off. On behalf of the entire club I would like to extend our get-well wishes to Dave Pelletier. Hope to see you soon!!

O Sole Mio

As I walked the show field during the dust off, old members, new members and total strangers stopped me time and time again. They all went out of their way to compliment our event and our staff. So many people from all walks of life came together to share their passion for Oldsmobile and just have fun. No talk about unemployment, government bailouts, tax increases, military

conflicts, or political corruption. Just care free casual classic car conversation. Many of those conversations led to new members joining the GMO. We added 16 new members to the GMO on that day. This must be some kind of a record. Welcome to our club!! It is my hope that all these new members get involved and reap the benefits of our club. I am sure our existing members will make our new members feel right at home at upcoming events. I urge all members to check the events calendar on our web site. We have many shows to attend this year. I am sure it is not possible to attend all of them. Please cross-reference the GMO events calendar with your personal schedule. I am sure that you will be able to attend plenty of shows in 2009. Our next big event is the Elm Bank Show on June 28th. Please make every effort to attend. Regretfully I will not be available for the Elm Bank show. Our Vice President Richard Santucci will be handling my responsibilities for Elm Bank. If you need any assistance during the show please let Rich know. He will be happy to assist you. I would like to thank a few people for their contributions to the club this month. • • • •

The entire staff of the Natick Elks for being wonderful hosts. All 12 of the GMO volunteers who worked very hard at the show. George Berejik, Rich Santucci, and all the volunteer judges. Great job. Bill Lapierre and the NEOC members for their support.
