Five Reasons to Select PASCO Sensors for AP* Physics 1. Tough, polycarbonate cases: Our sensor cases are tough and resist abuse.

5

7

6

2. Rugged connectors: Other sensor connectors can be fragile. But PASCO’s large connectors are extremely rugged and cannot be inserted incorrectly, making them ideal for student use!

3. Fully digital: Each fully digital sensor includes its own

analog-to-digital converter and signal processing electronics. The result is better, cleaner data and a wider range of measurements.

4. MultiMeasure Sensors: PASCO offers over 20 MultiMeasure

sensors. Because they are digital, we can put several sensors into one box, which means fewer cords and easier lab management. For example, our three-axis accelerometer and altimeter come in one package with just one cord.

5. Our sensor bundle works hand-in-hand with the

Discover Freefall System

ME-9827

ME-9889

This set allows students to investigate the relationship between the force applied to a spring and the amount of stretch on the spring.

As a force is applied to the spring by placing mass on the hanger, the spring stretches. Students can graph the applied force vs. spring stretch. The slope of this graph is the spring constant of the spring. The vertical intercept shows the initial force needed to begin stretching the spring.

PASCO’s Discover Freefall System can be used to drop almost any small object by attaching a small steel washer with a small adhesive pad (both are included in the system). Using an electric switch, timing is started automatically, just as the object is dropped. And the Time-of-Flight Pad stops timing when the object strikes it. PS-2128

This PASPORT sensor provides real-time acceleration data and visual clues that allow students to better understand the concept of acceleration. The sensor features 10 high output, wide-angle LEDs that indicate the magnitude and direction of acceleration. The case of the sensor fits directly into a dynamics cart, and features ties for pendulum motion and a pass-through so the sensor can be thrown vertically along a rope. Typical Applications A

eal-time measurement of R acceleration during simple harmonic motion Use as a standalone demonstration tool. Attaches to a PASCO Cart for incline experiments. Discover the acceleration of an elevator.

PS-2141

A Force overload protection This PASPORT sensor generates data in real time. The sturdy glass-filled nylon platform is supported by four force beams that combine to measure the total force on the platform. The Force Platform has two loops on the side to hang it on a wall. Typical Applications A A A A A

Mounts directly to PASCO dynamics carts.

Determine “hang time” by jumping up from the platform, then landing on it Measure impulse and maximum force when jumping. Use two Force Platforms to investigate Newton’s Third Law as two students push against each other. Measure the normal force on a person riding in an elevator. Use a Motion Sensor and a bouncing ball to compare the impulse and change in momentum as the ball collides with the platform.

Requires: Three AA batteries (included)

Recommended: Handle Set PS-2548

Charge Sensor

PS-2132

A Ideal for electrostatics

A 100 Hz sample rate

The Charge Sensor is designed for experiments in electrostatics such as inductive charging, charge production/distribution, and charge on a capacitor. The sensor features automatic scaling, eliminating the need for a gain switch. Designed with highly efficient input over-voltage protection, the Charge Sensor is virtually “blow-out” proof and will provide many years of use in the student lab.

A S imultaneously measure x, y and z acceleration through one port

When used with the Faraday Ice Pail, the Charge Sensor can measure the total charge on an object by the induction method. Typical Applications A A A

Impulse data for a bouncing playground ball.

Measure charge by induction. Quantify the charge on a capacitor plate. Discover the charge distribution on a conducting sphere.

High sensitivity for small accelerations and fast response for collisions — only PASCO offers students both capabilities with just one push of a button. PASCO Accelerometers offer a wider range, making them perfect for use with a greater variety of acceleration experiments in or out of the classroom. Students no longer have to use multiple acceleration sensors or worry about separate sensor orientation. PASCO sensors are permanently mounted in the correct orientation. Typical Applications A A A

ttach to a dynamics cart for the A study of Newton’s Laws. Investigate centripetal acceleration on a rotating platform. Study the acceleration of a hand while tossing a ball.

The Charge Sensor measures equal yet opposite charge on two objects. Recommended: Faraday Ice Pail ES-9042A

During a bench press, the weight lifter accelerates and then decelerates the weights. The acceleration is zero at the top of the lift where the weights are held at rest. This graph shows the resultant acceleration calculated from all three axes, so the orientation of the sensor does not affect the measurement. The acceleration due to gravity has been subtracted out.
