Highlights for the Week On December 6th at about 9:20 AM Ukiah Police responded “code-3” to the Ukiah Valley Medical Center’s Emergency Room for a subject forcibly entering the facility and assaulting staff. Officers arrived to find medical staff attempting to physically control a very large male, dressed as a female, in the Emergency Room. Responding officers and medical staff struggled with the combative subject who was kicking and swinging his arms, and officers requested assistance from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. Officers and staff were eventually able to overcome the subject’s resistance and take the subject into custody. The reception area window had been shattered, a computer monitor was destroyed, and several items had been thrown about the area. Officers learned the suspect, identified as 24 year old Daniel Ricky Escamilla, of Ukiah, entered the E.R. reception area and was observed nervously pacing and appeared very agitated. Escamilla began to pound on the door to the E.R. while demanding drugs, then turned and pounded the reception window, causing it to shatter. Escamilla continued in a rage, and threw a chair over the reception area counter at a staff member, then jumped over the counter. Escamilla encountered other staff members and the E.R. doctor, and threw a computer monitor, a small Christmas tree, and other items at staff while demanding “a shot”. Escamilla swung a metal tray stand at the doctor who blocked the stand with the doctor’s arms, and then Escamilla punched the doctor in the face. The doctor struggled briefly with Escamilla, who continued to force his way further into the Emergency Room demanding drugs. Emergency Room staff was able to hold Escamilla in a corner, and Escamilla bit one of the staff members in the arm. Officers arrived and took Escamilla into custody. Escamilla was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, burglary, battery on medical staff, resisting arrest, and felony vandalism. 13-3349 On December 7th at about 3:00 AM Ukiah Police responded to a residence in the 800 block of North Oak Street for a prowler.
