Peace Lutheran School: FAQ What grades do you have? Peace Lutheran School offers PreK for 4-year olds and K-8th grade. What is the tuition? Our 2012 -2013 Preschool tuition is $2800 and our K5-8th grade tuition is $4200. Registration fees are PK4 is $400 and K5-8 is $500. Families may elect from three different tuition payment plans including the single academic year payment plan (10% reduction), the semester payment plan (5% reduction), or the 10-month payment plan. What are the class sizes & student-to-teacher ratios? Peace Lutheran School limits its class size to 20 students assuring attention to all. We have specialized instructors for language, music, and art. Peace’s teacher to student ratio is 1:15. Does the school have a uniform policy? We require simple, inexpensive school uniforms for the children. Red, navy blue, royal blue, grey or white polo shirts may be worn with navy blue or khaki pants, shorts, or skorts. School logo polos are available. What are the school hours? School begins promptly at 8:20 AM. Classes end at 3:00 PM. Is extended care available?

Yes, Peace Lutheran School does provide financial assistance and scholarships. Details about scholarships and grants are available through our church and school office. What is the Step-Up for Students Scholarship? The program provides Tax Credit Scholarships to students in K-12 who come from low-income families who qualify based on income requirements. A family of four can make $3446 per month and receive a scholarship for full tuition. View full income guidelines on our website at www.MyPeaceKids.org. What is the McKay Scholarship? The John M. McKay Scholarship Program allows parents of students with disabilities to choose the best learning environment for their children. A student must have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) from the Florida Public School System.

Peace Lutheran offers after-school care until 6:00 PM at $4.00 an hour. What's the main difference between a Christian school and a public school? In addition to an academically-challenging curriculum, our school provides a Christ-centered environment. Peace Lutheran School educates to the spiritual, emotional, academic, social, and physical needs of our students. The love and forgiveness of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is evident each and every day at Peace Lutheran School. Are teachers in your school required to have certification, like in public schools? All teachers have obtained a State Credential and/or an Education Degree from one of our WELS/ELS Lutheran Colleges. Our principal previously taught in the public school system and has a professional teaching certificate from the State of Florida.

Peace Lutheran School: FAQ How does your curriculum differ from that of area public schools? Peace Lutheran follows national standards in addition to the Florida State standards. The curriculum for Peace Lutheran includes all subjects commonly taught in elementary and middle schools as set forth by the State of Florida, including math, reading, language arts, science, social studies, art, physical education, music and religion. A strong emphasis is placed on classical models for education together with religious studies. Report cards are issued four times a year, and ParentTeacher Conferences are held throughout the year. The Terra Nova Test is given annually to all students in grades 1-8. What is the enrollment process?

Does PLS have an interview or testing process? Incoming applicants will be interviewed and/or tested. Children transferring into Peace Lutheran School will need to be evaluated by our school prior to acceptance to ensure proper placement according to his or her academic level. A review of current Progress Reports (Report Cards, Achievement Test Scores and conduct) will be considered prior to admission. We will contact the students’ family to arrange a visit date. Peace Lutheran School accepts all qualified applicants when space permits. Active members of the congregation and siblings of currently enrolled students have priority, however, families do not need to attend Peace Lutheran Church to apply and be accepted. All students are taught Christian values which are vital to the education at Peace Lutheran School.

Does Peace Lutheran have a Kindergarten age requirement? Applying incoming kindergarten students must be five (5) years old by September 1 in the current school year they wish to enter Peace Lutheran School.
