Photoshop for Web Design Pre-requisites: If you wish to earn the Web Design Basics Certificate, you will need to take the following course: Effective Website Design. Materials/textbook: Photoshop CS5 Classroom in a Book. Available at KSU Center bookstore. Course Description: Learn the basics of how to use this industry-standard imaging software to create website design compositions. Hands-on course teaches students how to navigate the Photoshop interface as well use tools and techniques specific to the web design process. Students will leave the class knowing how to setup, create, and export graphics for a simple website design. This is the second course for the Web Design Basics Certificate. Learning Outcome(s):           

Navigate the Photoshop CS5 environment Understand resolution and types of website layouts Identify and use tools most-related to website design Setup, manipulate, and organize layers Understand panels, their location, and their usage Create and apply clipping masks, transparency masks, and adjustment layers Add layer styles using the fx option Apply filters to layers Optimize and export graphics for use on the web Understand the accepted placements of website components Layout a basic webpage design given client assets and project specs

Assessment(s) of Learning Outcomes: Through in-class exercises, each student will demonstrate the ability to:       

Testing/exam requirements: none Improve the quality of a photo for use in website Remove a white background from a logo Create several types of graphical navigation systems Arrange and manipulate layers to create a banner collage (if time allows) Create a graphical button to be used on the web Create a basic design comp for a website  Setup a new file with the correct resolution and width for a fixed web design  Place website components appropriately  Add color, effects, and filters to layers  Add and format headings and content sections

Methodology: Lecture, class discussion, demonstration, real-life experience, hands-on tutorials, classroom exercises.
