Prescription Drug Drop Off Proper disposal of prescription drugs is key when preventing misuse, poisoning, and even pollution. In fact, our old system of “crush ‘em and flush ‘em” may have a negative impact on our environment. Medicines, especially hormone treatments, can get into our water system and effect local wildlife, like our clean water mascot Clawd the Crayfish. Water treatment facilities are simply not equipped to handle the chemicals these medicines put into the water. In an effort to keep our citizens healthy and our water clean, the Plain Township Board of Trustees in cooperation with the Stark County Sheriff’s Department, the Stark County Metropolitan Narcotics Unit, and the Drug Enforcement Administration brings you a free prescription drug drop off at two sites. Deputies will be there to collect your drop off. You won’t even have to get out of your car! This service is free and anonymous —no questions anonymous— asked. Bring your prescription pills and liquids to the Plain Township Hall at 2600 Easton Street NE or to the main parking lot at the Mercy Medical Center, 1320 Mercy Drive NW on Saturday, September 25, 2010 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Plain Township Historical Society Meetings and programs are held on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Plain Township Hall. Meetings are free and open to the public. We are looking for new members! Please contact Tom at (330) 494 494--6187.

Fire & Safety News

Practice Generator Safety Downed utility lines, power company blackouts, heavy snowfalls or summer storms can all lead to power outages. Many people turn to a portable generator as a temporary solution without knowing the risks. Remember, when plugging in appliances, make sure they are plugged directly into the generator or a heavyduty outdoor-rated extension cord. All cords should be checked for cuts, tears and that the plugs have all three prongs, especially a grounding pin. If you must connect the generator to the house wiring to power your appliances, have a qualified electrician install a proper transfer switch in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and all applicable state and local electrical codes.

House Numbers Available Being able to find your residence or business is critical to aiding safety professionals in responding to an emergency. Residents can obtain signs with a blue metal background and large reflective numbers to aid in locating addresses. Road Department 2010 Paving & Repair

Our 2010 Plain Township Paving & Road Repair Project and Gutter Replacement Program are now complete. Approximately 12 miles of roadway were repaved and 0.16 miles of curb and gutter were completed. We would like to thank our residents for their patience with any inconvenience that may have occurred.

Sight Obstructions & Right Right--of of--Way Please trim back your trees, bushes, hedges, or anything that may cause a sight problem for drivers. The courts have determined that there may be a joint liability between the owner and the governmental agency for hazards in the right-of-way. Please also remember that trash cans and portable or permanent basketball hoops cannot be placed in the road right-of-way. According to ORC Section 3767.15, no obstruction can be placed in the right-of-way.

Drainage Problems

(330) 492 492--3423 it is illegal to dump oil, antifreeze, herbicides, pesticides or other hazardous products into ditches, culverts or catch basins. All violators will be prosecuted. If you see illegal dumping taking place, please report it to the Stark County Health Department at (330) 493-9904.

Organizing a stormwater stenciling project is an important environmental initiative that can lead to cleaner, healthier recreation and drinking water for our homes, communities, and our neighbors downstream.

If you see dumping taking place, call the Health Department at (330) 493 493--9904.

Stormwater Stenciling

Plain Township is currently seeking volunteers for the Stormwater Curb-Marking program. We need groups of four or more such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, youth groups, or anyone else who may be interested. What is stormwater stenciling? Stormwater stenciling is a coordinated effort to paint educational messages on local storm drains and basins that flow into important bodies of water.

Please remember not to rake leaves, grass clippings or other debris into our storm sewers, ditches or streets. Keeping storm sewers and ditches clean will help reduce drainage problems. Please also remember that 5

The purpose of stenciling storm drains is to reduce or eliminate NPS pollution. Stenciling the words “Do Not Dump, Drains To Lake” warns the community not to dump pollutants in catch basins. If you or your organization are interested please contact Sean Moriarty at the Plain Township Road Department, (330) 492-3423 or by email,
