As a marathon runner, this book is like a precious bible and also a bucket list of runs to do before you die. I have run three of the runs in this book in three different countries. That leaves me with 497 races and 98 countries if I want to tick off each running race listed. There are easy runs like the Broad Street Run in Philadelphia, right up to ultra-marathon runs like the 80km Royal Raid in Mauritius. Each race route is detailed along with a map showing the location and images of runners taking part. The oldest cross-country race in the world is the 12km English National Cross Country Championships in the UK, which was first run in 1876. Then there is the oldest and most famous stair race in the world, up the 1,576 stairs in the Empire State Building in New York.

Although the conscious mind has the power of reason and can decide the best action to take, it is according to this author, the subconscious mind that determines the state of our health. Behind every illness or health problem there is a positive thought or emotion or belief. But while we are trying to overcome our health problem, it is not always easy to see positive.

Every other page has a beautifully illustrated meal that not only looks good, it is more importantly, healthy! Little tips too, like: “Scallops are a rich source of omega 3, which can also help ease symptoms of premenstrual syndrome” alongside a recipe for White Miso Scallops. A few of the recipes, though, seem a little decadent, like the author’s wedding cake – Chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting – and the Naughty But Nice Cheesecake. I am feeling some of the recipes have too many ingredients and instructions, but then again there are others like the Ultimate Clean & Lean Lettuce Wrap with five ingredients and just two sentences for instructions.
