Course grade policy The course grade is composed of term performance (40%) and final exam (60%). To pass the course, a student must obtain at least 50% of total and at least 30% of the final exam grade. •

Term performance: there will be 4 (four) 50-minute tests in the tutorial hours. You are expected to take all the tests. The average of the best 3 (three) out of four tests will be counted as a term performance.

Final exam: a 3-hour written exam (scheduled by the University) will be given during the examination period in December.

Notes: o

It is each student's responsibility to be available at the time of the examination. In

particular, no travel plans should be made until the examination schedule is published. It is each student's responsibility to find out the correct date and time of the exam and the room where it takes place. o

After examination the students are allowed to see their exam papers until January 15. Usually, this review is for educational purposes only and NOT for negotiation of the grade with the instructor.

o

Students, whose term (tests + homework) grade is less than 20 (out of 40) and who are absent on the final examination, will be assigned the grade of FND (Fail No Deferral). Such students are not eligible to write a deferred examination.

o

Students who missed the examination may be eligible for a deferred exam, provided that they present a doctor note or another supporting document to the Registrar's Office. It is the Registrar's Office (not the course Instructor!), which makes the decision of granting a deferred examination.

Homeworks A list of selected exercises, mainly from the textbook, will be given. These exercises are not to be handed in and will not be graded. However, to succeed in the course, it is absolutely essential to do exercises on a regular basis.

Calculators Only non-programmable calculators are allowed for tests and for the final exam.
