PRESS RELEASE INTERNATIONAL LAUNCH CAMPAIGN AGAINST OIL PROSPECTINGS IN THE CANARY ISLANDS The recent announcement by Repsol, planning to start drilling near the coasts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura in Mai 2014, infringe the basic democratic garantees because of the imposition of a highly dangerous project in a territory that strongly rejects it, posing a threat of such a serious nature for the economical present and future human welfare in the Canary Islands. For these reasons and the actions undertaken by public and private spanish institutions in the High Court, in the European Union, in the United Nations, so as in other administrative, scientific, business and political domains, we promote now the start of an international campaign in order to seek support from the five continents against the Project of Repsol authorised by the Spanish Gevernment in 2012. Aim of the project: 1.-Ask for the inmediate and definitive cancellation of the oil exploration in the Canary Islands. 2.- Request an antagonistic model in its energy policy, by reducing hydrocarbons and promoting renewable Energies. 3.- To present the web page www.savecanarias.org at a national level and to create an international momentum which gives rise to increase concern in more than 200 countries.
