Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TRAGIC NEWS - ALLEN CARR WHO LED MILLIONS OF SMOKERS TO FREEDOM DIED TODAY, AGED 72 Allen Carr, the world-renowned stop smoking guru, died today 29.11.06 at the age of 72. Born on 2nd September 1934, Allen, a Londoner, started his career as a qualified accountant in 1958. He was successful in his chosen profession, but his hundredcigarettes-a-day addiction was driving him to despair. In 1983, after countless failed attempts to stop by using will-power, he finally discovered what the world had been waiting for – the Easyway to Stop Smoking.

After leaving accountancy to help cure the world’s smokers, Allen built up a global reputation as THE stop smoking guru. His method was founded through his original clinic in South West London, and experiences from these sessions have been used as the basis for his hugely successful books and DVDs which have sold more than 10 (ten) million copies worldwide.

His first book ALLEN CARR’S EASYWAY TO STOP SMOKING is by far the biggest selling quit smoking book ever written and has become a global publishing phenomenon with over 7 (seven) million copies sold and sales continuing to increase.

Globally renowned as the world’s leading smoking cessation expert, Allen Carr’s Easyway To Stop Smoking Clinics, operated by his trained therapists, have a 90% success rate measured by their money back guarantee.

At one time Allen Carr was approached by British American Tobacco (BAT) who wanted to buy his endorsement of their supposed efforts to help smokers quit. He did not pursue this although it meant turning his back on a potentially huge pay off.

Allen Carr was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer in the summer of 2006. It seemed probable that the years he spent curing smokers in smoke-filled sessions at his clinics must have contributed to this illness. Allen said “Given that I am informed that I have

cured at least 10 million smokers on a conservative estimation, even if that is the case, it’s a price worth paying”.

Before his death Allen remarked “Since I smoked my final cigarette, 23 years ago, I have been the happiest man in the world, I still feel the same way today”.

John Dicey, Worldwide Director of Allen Carr's Easyway says: “This is a tragic and emotional day for everyone involved with Allen Carr’s Easyway organisation, most of whom, as former smokers, owe Allen their lives. Our hearts go out to Allen’s family and the millions of former smokers who will be saddened by his passing. The fact that a former 100 a day smoker, having quit in his middle age, lived to the ripe old age of 72 is a tremendous message to all smokers. Allen Carr’s refreshingly different approach to stopping smoking earned him the position as the world’s leading expert on helping smokers to quit. He was an iconic figure and a real inspiration and we will celebrate his life’s work by ensuring that Allen Carr’s Easyway message and method continues helping smokers quit throughout the world. Allen leaves behind an amazing ongoing publishing programme and fast-growing worldwide network of clinics which will continue his phenomenal success. That’s exactly what Allen wanted and why he went to great lengths to ensure his succession would be seamless.”

Dicey continues, “Robin Hayley continues to head the organisation which he has overseen for the past 15 years. Robin has been one of Allen’s closest friends and the driving force behind the expansion of the worldwide clinic network and international publishing programme which covers more than 45 countries and Allen was content in the knowledge that the method and organisation was in safe hands. It is a tragedy that Allen has passed away without receiving the official recognition he deserved. The Government, Department of Health, NHS, QUIT, and ASH all failed to accept his repeated approaches offering his method for wider use to help more smokers stop. Successive governments, the Dept of Health and NHS refused to even meet with him”. He leaves a legacy of more than 70 clinics in 30 different countries and a wide range of books, which are best sellers throughout the world, with ten million copies sold to date. His Easy Way method has helped millions of people across the globe to quit smoking.

Allen Carr, who sprang from a working class background in Putney, West London, was an ordinary man transformed by a streak of innovative genius and an all-consuming mission: to cure the world of smoking. He helped more smokers get free than anyone else on the planet and is a classic example of the best of British making its mark on the world stage. Allen was determined to finish his last book SCANDAL which he described as the “book that the Government, Department of Health, the NHS, ASH, & QUIT do not want you to read”. He succeeded, SCANDAL is now available as a free download on www.allencarr.com
