PREFACE First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the organizing committee of the Third International Seminar on Poverty Eradication 2012, in particular, The Rector of The University of Bengkulu, Indonesia and his team for their great effort in organizing the Seminar. The First RENPER Seminar was held in 2010 as a humble gathering of people who showed great commitment and interest on the regional and global issues of poverty as indicated by their continuous efforts and contribution to poverty eradication activities in their respective countries. Poverty is not just about economic inadequacies among poor communities but poverty is also about accessibility for wealth and deprivation of human rights. Thus, academicians with high intellectual capabilities will be one of the important groups of people who are responsible in synergistically help the government and other agencies in reducing or even eradicating poverty. Poverty has become a common social illness in many countries particularly in this region. The social, economic and political instability and the natural disasters such as flood, typhoons and earthquakes are the among the factors contributing to the increasing occurrence of poverty in many countries. Excessive poverty or hard core poverty not only may lead to the destruction of social-economic status but also resulted in the decay of values in the society. The outcome ofthe first Seminar which was held in UMK, was documented in a book entitled "Issues and Strategies in Poverty Eradication" which forms the first publication for RENPER. This is followed by the proceedings of the 2nd RENPER International Seminar and now the publication of the 3rd Proceedings of the RENPER Seminar. The publication of the proceedings is an indication of our commitment to ensure not only the sustainability of RENPER, but also to create a strong awareness of the need for more people to advocate the concept of poverty eradication. In this issue, wide array of topics on poverty and the eradication strategies

There may be no perfect olution to po ert but to achie e zero poverty, every little effort counts, including the documenta ion of he best practices in the strategie undertaken to eradicate the problem associated to poverty. I believe the proceeding will pro .de another dimension and insights on poverty and it \ ill al 0 add to other voluminous literatures on poverty around the world. I am happy to inform that RENPER has actuall achie ed it objectives considering the constraints faced by the member countries. We also believe that there are till a lot of work needed to be done. Political repre ion ha been th birth of the ocial condition of poverty in the community. People can be poor becau e of the arbitrarine of the tate through the mechani m of oppressing and di criminating rule . So one of the root causes of poverty are unju t law and oppre ive political structures of society. State ha not been able to overcome poverty satisfactorily walfare toward he con truction of a tate uch a Britain and the Scandinavian countrie for example, which provides social ecurity benefits to health ducation, unemployment and old age (Djiwandono: 1999, page 152-153}. In line with this, Bung Hatta once said: «The country has not run ocial justice, where the poor are still wandering in the middle of the treet, and children abandoned his life». Where ocial injustice still there there wa still the problem of povert in the reality of society.

Alleviating Poverty through Building Personal Excellence Character Person Who Has Confident and a Vision for Prosperity We can only sol e the problem of poverty by way of preparing for the superior quality of the human person. Poverty is a matter of humanity. He is a condition or situation that is in direct contact with human ubject. Because of poverty should be handled first by giving attention to the character of man as individual and social being . Till i where the per onal character excels forming a crucial is ue urgent and important to note. One of the effort to reduce poverty can be done b modifying the human per on who is confident and has a vision far into the future. One who believes himself the personal meaning that can prepare well for the advanced, ucces fuJ and able to fight to live well and prosper. Independent Personal and Hard Worker Actually there is a relationship between th pe on who i confident and familiar with the per onal vi ion of independent living. People can only be indep ndent and autonomou in attitudes, behaviors and actions if he live confidentl . P pI an only be self-sufficient and autonomou if he ha a vi ion far ah ad and were able to determine or choose action that i good tru and right for themselves. Identical independen per on with a tron personal self, likes to fight and work hard. Such p rsonal typology should be developed for supporting he idea of th truggl to eradicate poverty. The fight against poverty can b r aliz db, p opl who have a strong character, fighter, independent and hard, orking. With a capital of personality traits such as the e, we can hope and optimism that poverty can be overcome. We have already en in th previous section that one of the roo cau e of po er i th fragility of the human characters uch as laz at itude, ca ual and extravagant. These things of cour e we want to get rid of the human persons who want to get ahead. We " ant to fight po rty b creating the character of an independent person and a hard work r. Creative and Innovative Person Human beings are endowed with dignity thinking mind which distinguishes it from the animals. Advantage think 0 far onl possessed by humans. Professor Edward de Bono 200 ) ay tha creative thinking skills can be trained. If trained well we hough it would be easy to use for a variety of need including 0 ercoming poverty. Alleviate the problem of poverty can be done b creating a personal who can think creatively. In Engli h literature, creative means to make something or produce omething new. Meaning creative actually very broad and varied. However, a clear creative mind thinks it involve energy n hu iasm and a spectacular discovery. Creative thinking can make p ople in nt n w things in life, hinting towards the intended or de igned bowing an attempt to achieve perfection. In the context of poverty r duction, a creative thinker will be able to create nev innovations in work and career so that he is able to further achie e welfare and pro p rity in life. Of course it needs to be ba ed on inno ative crea i ity wi h ethical-moral issues as well. We can not pro per in a nega ive way eg stealing, corruption, robbing the rights of othe and 0 forth. We are also able to fight poverty if we ar able to create a per onal ocial life. This means egoistic attitude -individuali tic need to be eliminated in every human per on. Poverty can be overcome by creating people who are able to work together with other ,open to others, able to build a social network with people who want to get ahead in life. We need to build a social network to fight poverty. The fight against poverty is not just an individual issue, but requires cooperation among various parties to it. A growing number of social networks that are formed, the values of the fight against poverty more firmly so as to create or grow a shared commitment to advance towards prosperity. Jansz (2009 mentioned some social networking functions including: creating a personal network networking skills and developing professional can provide numerous benefits for individuals and Organizations, networking while on the job increase of our access to available resources and information, networking helps you increase of a new concept or project, etc. In essence, through a network of cooperation each person will be able to build productive cooperation and the more successful and prosperous in life.
