MICROFILM

This collection is available at The State Historical Society of Missouri. If you would like more information, please contact us at [email protected]. This is sheet music for piano and Spanish guitar collected by Dora Pelagie Rozier (1855-1928) and Emily Pelagie (Janis) Rozier (1855-1944) of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. Included are four musical periodicals and a handwritten transcription by Marie Zoe (Vallé) Rozier (1821-1900). The collection consists of five volumes of published sheet music for piano and Spanish guitar. It was assembled by members of the Janis and Rozier families of Ste. Genevieve. Many of the musical scores date from the ante-bellum and Civil War eras. The earliest volume (Volume 1) includes four scores which were published in Paris, France, and a handwritten transcription of “The Celebrated Tyrolian Waltz” by Marie Louise Zoe (Vallé) Rozier. Most of the scores in Volume 1 are undated, but the latest dated score was published in 1839. Volume 2 was collected by Emily Pelagie (Janis) Rozier and includes works published between 1843 and 1866. Volumes 3 and 4 belonged to Dora Pelagie Rozier. The scores in Volume 3 were published between 1837[?] and 1868, while the works in Volume 4 are dated between 1841 and 1872. Notes on some of the scores indicate they were once owned by Marie Eva Rozier (18541921). All three volumes contain many products of St. Louis publishers. Volume 5 contains material published between 1855 and 1890. Included here are four musical periodicals: Kunkel’s Musical Review (June 1883 and February 1890); Trifet’s Monthly Galaxy of Music (November 1887); and The Musical Record (July 1884). The St. Louis publishing houses of Kunkel Bros. and Balmer & Weber are represented in the selections. A complete list of the scores, including date of publication, title, composer and/or arranger, lyricist, publisher, and place of publication, is available for each volume. r316
