JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Coach Men’s Rugby Department: Regis University, Department of Wellness and Recreation Supervisor: Margie Rodgers, Assistant Director Wellness and Recreation Regis University is seeking qualified and motivated applicants for Coach, Men’s Rugby. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with an ambitious Division II collegiate rugby club to play a key role in the club’s continued development and success. Compensation is offered for qualified individuals, commensurate with experience and qualifications (estimated hourly rate $10 - $13 p/hour). This role will be a nine-month contract starting in July 2013 and includes the option for renewal in 2014. Regis Rugby currently trains three times a week for up to two hours, and completes three additional Strength and Conditioning sessions on rotating seasonal schedules. Regis Rugby Coaches are more than rugby coaches. You will be expected to collaborate with team captains to set goals, develop budgets, evaluate organizational needs, problem-solve, and serve as a liaison with other university departments essential to program implementation and success. Overall, Regis Coaches must support the Regis Wellness & Recreation Department mission to mentor student leaders by delivering a program that epitomizes the core values that reflect our Jesuit identity, as well as enhancing every student’s experience throughout their time at Regis University. Please apply at jobs.regis.edu/ JOB SUMMARY: Coaching and administration for all phases of Regis Men’s Rugby including, but not limited to: (1) Develop, prepare and implement season, semester, weekly and individual rugby training session plans -

In consultation with the Assistant Director of Wellness and Recreation and associated Regis Rugby support staff perform ongoing program administration, coaching and player management Provide recruiting interface between Regis and prospective students and parents Provide assistance with revenue generation, budget planning and management Plan yearly budgets taking into account expenses and team dues. Manage and coordinate prehabilitation and rehabilitation with team athletic trainer(s) Seek out best practice and innovative approaches in rugby and other sports and universities that would offer a positive performance impact on team or individual player development Work within the rules of the Regis University Code of Conduct, standards and guidelines Undertake any other reasonable duties for the Wellness and Recreation and Rugby staff, and affiliated colleagues as requested to create a positive and challenging environment

(2) Deliver, or manage a high performance strength and conditioning support program to run parallel to rugby training and properly prepare collegiate rugby athletes: -

Program should reflect scientific principles as they relate to adaptation, periodization, peaking, tapering and injury rehabilitation Develop and measure KPIs to support individual player development and overall team objectives Perform reliable physical testing, monitoring and assessment activities for the profiling and tracking of players

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES of this role: (These are listed in order of importance & including an approximate percentage of time for each duty) 60%

Coaching Responsibilities ~40% Training Sessions Deliver pre-planned training sessions

Coach all trainings, including assimilation of management of ATCs and S&C programs ~20% Home and Away Competitions Drive team van for off-campus events and out of state travel Manage a changing team roster over season, semester and weekly durations, ensure that each player remains eligible, with appropriate paperwork submitted to USA Rugby, Frontier Collegiate Conference and internally to meet Regis University requirements. 30% Direct Team Management & Supervision Team Captains Help team captains develop and maintain a positive team culture. In conjunction with the team captains, identify a set of rules or team code of conduct policy for team participants. Budget Help team captains and officers plan, track, and reconcile yearly budgets. Ensure all players have paid their dues (or placed their dues on their student accounts) before being allowed to play in any competitions Spend team funds wisely, only if dues have been collected at the beginning of the season to cover projected expenses, and in consultation with the Assistant Director of Wellness and Recreation. Home Games Assist in the supervision of the rugby participants during home competitions. Help maintain order on and off the Regis Home field, including management of spectators and fans. Away Games Supervise team participants on day-trips, and/or overnight and tournament/multi-day travel in a manner that ensures athletes are representing Regis University appropriately. Consult with the Assistant Director of Wellness and Recreation before finalizing any travel plans that include overnight stays. Emergency Response Carry the Emergency Response Binder with contact information, health forms, copies of insurance to all home and away competitions, maintain documents up to date at all times. 5%

Fund Raising & Revenue Generation Assist Team Captains in identifying and implementing team fund raising activities.

Other Perform related duties as necessary to support the Regis mission.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Experience: Demonstrated experience coaching either high school or collegiate sports and managing athletic groups in either squads and/or teams. Demonstrated effective organizational and communication skills essential. Ability and willingness to work long hours on evenings and weekends essential. Ability to work well with a variety of individuals essential. Skills: Must be able to physically perform motor skills to accomplish all aspects of conducting rugby training sessions. Must be physically capable of driving passenger vans. Knowledge: Must have an understanding of the developmental level and needs of college students. Must have advanced knowledge of the rules, techniques and strategies of the game of rugby. Abilities: Should be able to demonstrate excellent supervision and guidance skills. Must be able to effectively communicate and coordinate many areas within the scope of the job at the same time. Must be able to work extended hours and remain effective in decision-making and organization. Must be flexible in dealing with coaches, staff, student athletes and external parties.
